The majority of its work initially came through political campaigns and social impact drives, though the company has expanded its activities into more commercial fields like brand perception and sales in the last few years.

BlueLabs has an interesting origin story, with the founding quartet all working in senior analytics roles for the Democratic Party during the 2012 presidential campaign, where Barrack Obama won a second term against Mitt Romney.

Though the jury is still out on the ethics of big data methods for political motivation - for instance, the Cambridge Analytica scandal regarding its use of social media data in influencing elections - this approach has proven to be extremely effective in persuading and activating audiences. There’s also little doubt that it can be used for great causes too, as shown by BlueLabs’ work with the likes of the UN Refugee Agency, and environmental organization The Sierra Club.
