Otta's take

Theo Margolius headshot

Theo Margolius

COO of Otta

Breakroom lets you compare your hourly job to other jobs across the UK. The startup is focusing on the human aspects of a job experience. Like whether people worry about how many hours they get, how stressful the job is, or whether it's easy to fit around childcare.

The company faces competition from a number of startups in the area, as well as job comparison functions of bigger players such as Indeed and Glassdoor.

The company is focused on lower-wage, large-employer sectors such as retail, delivery companies and supermarket work, but it hopes to expand its offering to other verticals in the future.

From the moment I applied for this job I knew that diversity was important to the company, through what they wrote in the job description, but I never expected it to be to this level. Whether it be gender or background, the company continues to hire diversely to allow people's different experiences in life to play a part in what we're building & make it an all round better product for everyone using it.

Joining as the most junior person in the company it is easy to think that you will just be overlooked & that no one will really care about what you say or your opinions. This is not the case at all! From day one people across the company have listened to what I have had to say, they also regularly ask for mine & others' opinions when thinking about a problem or in meetings.
