Classically, cell morphology has been limited by human interpretation and a lack of tools for capturing and studying abnormal cells. Deepcell wants to change this, with its AI-powered cell classification and single-cell capturing and analysis, that helps advance precision medicine and provide novel insights into cell biology.
The better analysis of the biology of malignant cells could result in rapid progress for cancer research, as well as having a myriad of other applications. To achieve this better analysis, Deepcell has created technology that uses machine learning to classify cells based on visual features. This tech can be used for translational, diagnostic, and therapeutic research, and the company ultimately aims to modernize the field through high-performance computing and modernization of morphology for scale, interoperability, and usability.
Having achieved significant funding, as well as generating large amounts of interest from both businesses and experts in the field, Deepcell has already made a splash and is one to watch as it further develops and influences the adoption of AI in the biological research community.

Founders
Invented Deepcell’s AI-based, single-cell analysis and sorting technology with their postdoctoral advisor Euan Ashley and Mahyar Salek, and spun the company out of Stanford University in 2017. They have a multidisciplinary background with experience in electrical engineering, computer science, and bioengineering.
Mahyar Salek
(President & CTO)Prior to founding Deepcell, they were the lead product manager at Google for offline measurements, which grew to multi-billion dollar revenue during their tenure. They also co-founded and developed Emotiful, one of the earliest apps to use deep learning which ranked at the top of several app stores and app data platforms.
