Otta's take

COO of Otta

Ledgy was founded as an equity management platform for high-growth companies, allowing them to focus first and foremost on growth by handling cap tables, employee participation plans, and investor relations. It also offers investors a personalised dashboard which allows modelling flexible funding scenarios, valuations and exits.

The company realised that manual Excel-based processes or inflexible legacy systems aren't optimally efficient for high-growth companies. They often make managing equity plan management a full-time job, taking time away from company growth. Ledgy's key features include document handling automation, legally compliant document signing, customised PDF investor reports and scenario modelling. In doing this, it takes a privacy and security-first approach.

Ledgy now has hundreds of high-growth clients, including NA-KD, Dott, yamo, and Codility, offering products for finance, human resources, and investors. In addition, Ledgy has a comprehensive sustainability policy: its office is driven by a green energy provider, its servers run on Google's renewable energy infrastructure, and it's working to become carbon neutral through partnerships with the likes of SeaO2, an ocean carbon removal company.

My opinions are valued (1)

Diversity is a priority (1)

On my first day I was already surprised by the number of topics for which my opinion was not only considered, but also anticipated, such as "what are my thoughts on how we approach problem X?" or "the code review workflow is currently under revision to better facilitate knowledge sharing, do I have any suggestions to the proposal? Did I have any experiences in previous teams that did/didn't work well?". At Ledgy everyone is strongly encouraged to not only voice their opinion, but also to be criticial. There are no silly questions and we have various forums for sharing our thoughts including the - optionally anonymous - weekly founders' Q&A at our all-hands, regular company retros and at every meeting or presentation.

At Ledgy we consider the diversity of our team as a key source of our success. We don't and won't have quotas as we believe there are better ways to valuing diversity. We have regular workshops and discussions on diversity and inclusion, which aren't mandated by some company policy, but always brought up by different members of the team based on information we encounter. We often brainstorm on how we can best prioritize diversity in our communication and show that no topic is ever taboo in our team. Currently we are super proud to have an engineering team with more women and man, but gender is far from the only topic where we want to be diverse. Our Ledgistats page can give an insight of how diverse we are :)

Personally I value the incredibly open and honest communication the most at Ledgy. This aligns with 1 of our 4 key company values and provides an environment that is both much more personal and also efficient. Initially, having come from a very bureaucratic culture, it took me a while to get used to how open and direct people are at Ledgy. However, ever since I've been loving it so much. It is just so much easier to be able to speak up and directly say what's on your mind rather than having to sugar coat it or else.. Here it is our utmost priority that everyone's heard and we thrive for constructive feedback, that is how we grow. Furthermore, the openness also applies to upper management. As a startup, there are a lot of moving factors, and it is just so nice to see the founders/mangers share the plans and decisions with the team, even if they are sensitive or might change. And importantly this applies to both successes and failures. We are aware that not every day is a sunny day and we discuss what is going well the same way as what isn't.
