Innovative product

We are always tackling new problems in the web3 space that require new ways of thinking. Such as handling async UI states where transactions might take 5+ minutes to confirm, to developing using web3 libraries.

Opportunities to learn

Since working at Maple I have learned to use the ethers and web3React libraries whilst integrating other web3 libraries such as Gnosis safe, I have built features which utilise BigNumber calculations. We have also been put through workshops to learn the xState directly with the creator of the library. You are also entitled to a subscription for an online learning platform.

Challenging work

Building a protocol that has a complex balance of capital efficiency, gas efficiency, modularity, composability, all while trying to remain minimally opinionated. Working towards 3 separate composabile protocols for generally collateralized loans, pooling of assets for investing/liquidity, and general backstop insurance (for loans or pools).

Intelligent people

Consistent and honest technical debate about the specific engineering problems and solutions. It's awesome to watch everyone bring their own ideas and proofs of concept to the table, critique the solutions, and borrow ideas to result in new elegant and efficient solutions.

Opportunities to learn

We're always learning and developing new and better ways to be more capital and gas efficient, as well as be more composable. This includes staying abreast of proxy contract mechanisms and the latest in DeFi and flash loan mechanisms. Also, we use HEVM/dapp-tools for all testing, which is a very powerful tool to thoroughly tests smart contracts, from unit tests, integration tests, and end-to-end tests.

We have strong funding, a great team, and are executing well in one of the most promising areas of DeFi – undercollateralized lending. I'm enjoying our transition from a scrappy, little-known startup to a recognized player in the space, the growth in our team and evolution of our technology.

Flexible working

Having flexible working hours is great because I can easily manage working and other life commitments. A good example is being able to go to the gym right in the middle of the afternoon, when it's the most empty, and while it seems silly, it's the sort of thing that contributes to a way more relaxed day.

Growing fast

Working at Maple has been extremely rewarding and challenging. We have built a sizable business in less than a year and continue to grow rapidly. We are solving new problems and using new tooling in the Web3 space and have to deliver features on a small team. Everyone member of the team is immensely important and you will acquire the most in demand skills of the entire software engineering industry, if not possibly the free world.

It's exciting to see what the next quarter will bring, let alone the next year or even 5 years.

There are 4 core values that we subscribe to at Maple, Personal Ownership, Focused Execution, User Prioritisation, Innovative Mindset. We make sure what we do or are planning to do is evaluated against these. In hiring, personal quarterly feedback sessions, OKR's. They are very helpful tools to keep us all culturally and professionally aligned. Something vital in a fully remote organisation. We have a weekly "All Hands" call each week. This is where, as many, if not all the Maple team get together and get an overview of the week past and ahead from all the departments. It's a really valuable touch point to know how what we are all doing comes together in the big picture.
