Notonthehighstreet have found a niche within ecommerce, providing a curated online platform for small businesses.

They currently have 5,000 small businesses selling their unique products on the platform and their business model is similar to Etsy.

Amazon are increasingly doubling down on their marketplace proposition and are powerful competition for Notonthehighstreet. However, their user base is one that values the uniqueness and curation they provide, so this should provide them with a competitive advantage.

I'm trusted to do my work when, where, and how I do it best. Each manager I've had throughout my time at NOTHS has encouraged me to make suggestions about operational improvements, ideate, and make myself heard. I've always felt like my opinions are truly valued and contribute to improvements in company culture and ways of working.

Since joining the People team, I've been given so many valuable opportunities to learn things outside of my scope. While they're not always skills I'll need to use in my day-to-day, I know they're contributing to my overall career progression which is so valuable and important to me.

The people team at noths work really hard to make sure that everyone feels their support throughout the working day and beyond. Frequent socials and mental health days are a bonus, but the real joy is in a caring team you can always talk to.

This is something that people within the company say a lot. Of course there will be people you clash with a bit at work, but overall everyone is incredibly nice. There is a very friendly, relaxed atmosphere. I'm friends outside work with a lot of my colleagues, even ones who have left.

I joined Noths at the beginning of my career, and I've stayed here for a good few years partly because it's a fantastic place to learn. This might vary from team to team, but personally I work across the stack with a very varied range of tech. Most importantly, everyone is very supportive of teaching each other, and you're allowed to take the time you need to complete a task, even if you go a bit slower because you're learning something new. I received a lot of great advice and mentoring from a lot of more experienced devs, who were vary patient and kind teaching me.

I definitely enjoy the autonomy to experiment with an idea or try things a different way. In my team, it's unusual for anyone to be very prescriptive about how code is written or a task is completed. Generally, you can take the time to try things out, and we often don't have strict deadlines - as long as you're generally productive.

Autonomy

NOTHS employees are friendly and want the best for the company. They understand the value of people and are flexible to accommodate different needs. This is also evident from the upper management.

NOTHS understands the importance of prioritisation to ensure that employees are not overloaded. They ensure that priorities are clear so employees can easily manage their time to deliver efficiently. This also means that we do not take on more work than we can handle.

Software Engineering

Manageable workload

Nov 2022

NOTHS operates core working hours to ensure that employees can manage their outside-of-work responsibilities around this. They also understand that things sometimes unexpected things happen and are very accommodating of this. This is all part of them understanding the value of their people.
