Otta's take

CTO of Otta

Taking inspiration from code search engines such as OpenGrok, Livegrep and Google Code Search. The Sourcegraph team have created a powerful program to enable developers to quickly search code across an entire organisation, including third party library code, in any language. While this type of system is already used by many large scale organisations, Sourcegraph’s aim is to bring the convenience of its code search engine to every single developer.

Searching through reams of code, particularly when debugging, is tiresome and time consuming. Eliminating the issues of this process by speeding it up, saves time for individuals and businesses alike, and reduces stress levels. Sourcegraph is open core, with a free version available for any developers to use. Where Sourcegraph creates revenue, is with creating enterprise specific features for large corporations.

Sourcegraph is keen to look to the future with plans in place to grow its public search index, and to add in batch change features, enabling users to search, and also replace code easily.
