Otta's take

Xav Kearney

CTO of Otta

In the past few years, dozens of startups have offered tests that bypass the NHS by providing pay-as-you-go medical testing normally reserved for the unwell. Thriva has focused on finger-prick blood tests for preventative measures, allowing customers to take control of their health without going through what can be a drawn out, sometimes fruitless, process with their GP.

The company's bright branding helps soften the need for customers to prick their fingers. The business model is smart as regular tests are required to track the progress of an indicator like cholesterol, additionally, its fully customisable suite of tests enables users to only order the tests they need.

Thriva has brought to light how well some diseases can be prevented just by testing, advice from its doctors can even help with simpler answers, like if someone is taking a Vitamin C supplement but they don't need to. The company has picked up a large customer base and has made several partnerships to make comprehensive blood tests easily accessible.
