The re-sale market across everyday clothing, collectables and luxury is growing. One driving force of this is that people care more about sustainability and are therefore buying 2nd hand goods. This has resulted in a fast growing market with plenty of opportunity.

The experience on Depop is what you'd expect from platforms such as Instagram. The focus on social, creators and influencers has created a very high level of engagement.

Depop was quick to realise the value in power users and has focused efforts there (where people are generating up to $100,000 in annual income for themselves by selling items). The popularity of social platforms making individuals into entrepreneurs will likely attract interest from Instagram and Pinterest. This may pose a challenge for Depop as these competitors will be in a strong position to leverage their networks.

The company has been acquired by Etsy and is now focusing on strategic partnerships in several industries to keep market share flowing in.
