Who you are

  • 8+ years of experience leading marketing analytics initiatives
  • Significant experience contributing to customer retention efforts, leveraging propensity modeling and data-driven insights to identify the key actions and investments that will improve customer LTV
  • Experience supporting offsite SEO initiatives, including familiarity with SEO-specific tools (e.g. Google Search Console, Semrush) and experimentation
  • Strong track record of high impact strategic contributions
  • Proficiency with SQL, Looker, R/Python
  • Experience with large datasets and using data to influence business decisions
  • Experience presenting to senior leadership, distilling technical insights into crisp and compelling narratives
  • Excellent judgment, strong problem-solving skills, and capacity to make data-driven recommendations in ambiguous situations

What the job involves

  • We are looking for a Director of Marketing Analytics to help lead our efforts to measure and optimize our CRM and SEO programs
  • You will be responsible for guiding the measurement approach, insights, and strategy for our organic marketing channels, elevating how we retain our existing customers through email and push marketing, improving our ability to capture valuable offsite traffic through SEO, and helping develop new initiatives to increase customer frequency and LTV
  • This is a full-time position reporting to the Senior Director, Marketing Analytics & Strategic Finance
  • Lead Analytics teams responsible for delivering measurement techniques and actionable insights to help improve our CRM and SEO programs
  • Collaborate with leads across Marketing, Product, and Engineering to develop our near-term roadmap and long-term strategy for increasing customer retention and capturing more high-quality offsite traffic via SEO
  • Present key insights and recommendations to senior stakeholders across the company
  • Raise the skill level of our Analytics function through the introduction of strong practices, processes, tools and close mentorship of both direct reports and broader team

  • More broadly, the Analytics team at Etsy helps drive the success of our partners by providing meaningful insights, industry-leading measurement techniques, and access to the metrics, data, and tools needed for decision-making and optimization
  • We partner with our peers through all stages of development: identifying initial opportunities, analyzing the impact of our efforts, and highlighting improvement areas. Ultimately, the team’s work strengthens Etsy and helps continuously improve the Etsy experience

Our take

Created as an alternative to more corporate eCommerce sites, Etsy is a peer-to-peer (P2P) website where users buy and sell handmade crafts, vintage items, art, and photography. The online marketplace works similarly to Amazon and eBay, only with an emphasis on unique items rather than mass-produced merchandise.

Since its IPO in 2015, it has managed to hold its own in an increasingly competitive eCommerce industry, including from Amazon's handmade section that launched in 2015. Further, by providing sellers with ownership over pricing and branding, the site is attractive for those wanting to set up a business on an established platform.

However, the seller-side of Etsy is not without problems. The recent hike in transaction fees and the introduction of mandatory marketing fees for artists with high turnovers has created significant discontent amongst sellers. Etsy must reconcile these issues to ensure artists continue to operate on the same scale within the platform. It plans to attract shoppers with its message of extraordinary, handmade and affordable products.
