Who you are

  • Minimum 5 years experience in the financial services industry, preferably in AML/CFT or fraud detection and investigation, risk management, or compliance
  • 4-year undergraduate degree (minimum)
  • Ability to think dynamically, multi-task, organize, and prioritize responsibilities
  • Experience understanding legal and regulatory concepts and converting them into relevant, practical business requirements
  • Experience in case management systems (Actimize, Fiserv, etc.)
  • Experience investigating activity in common consumer and business financial products (checking, savings, loans, P2P payments)

Desirable

  • Experience in SQL (experience with Vertica/Snowflake a plus)
  • AML/CFT Certifications (ACFCS, ACAMS, etc.)

What the job involves

  • Square Financial Services is looking for someone who is an experienced and motivated professional to combat AML/CFT and Sanctions risk as part of the Financial Crimes Compliance team
  • The Financial Crimes Compliance Analyst is primarily responsible for investigating cases of suspected money laundering or fraud, analyzing trends in nefarious activity, and devising strategies to prevent or mitigate risk associated with such activity
  • You will report to the Square Financial Services Financial Crimes Compliance Lead
  • Monitor and act upon compliance-related alerts and referrals
  • Investigate and document incidents of potential money laundering, fraud, terrorist financing, and other financial crimes
  • Utilize internal and external resources to identify and analyze financial crimes trends
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Compliance, Risk, Operations, and other partner teams in support of the Bank’s AML/CFT program
  • Identify and assess weak points and make appropriate recommendations to prevent and/or minimize financial crimes risk to the Bank
  • Contribute to projects optimizing the AML/CFT regulatory program and Bank operation team's processes
  • Compile time-sensitive reporting for senior management
  • File and review Suspicious Activity Reports
  • Occasionally attend compliance-related seminars to stay abreast of the compliance industry

Block is a financial services technology company comprising of Square, Cash App, Spiral, TIDAL, and TBD. Its biggest brand, Square, offers hardware and software for small to medium-sized businesses enabling them to manage the entire payment lifecycle. It functions similarly to Shopify and Stripe, but has paired online payment processing with physical devices such as registers, payment terminals, and mobile card readers.

The business was originally founded as Square in 2009 by Jack Dorsey of Twitter fame. Already well-established with SMEs all over the globe, Square has significantly benefited from the increased demand for mobile payment systems. Its order management feature remains a go-to tool for small businesses that otherwise didn't have the proper infrastructure in place when demand for home delivery surged.

Square rebranded as Block in December 2021, with the Square brand name remaining in place for their seller business. The company has since come under fire for its security practices, facing lawsuits in relation to a major breach of CashApp user data, and in 2024 announced plans to reduce its workforce in order to cut costs. Despite these setbacks, there is every chance the business will move past this, though it may take some time to rebuild trust in its product.
