What the job involves

  • This is an opportunity to serve as a senior partner and advisor on Notion’s Business Operations team, focused primarily on go-to-market and foundational functions at Notion. Business Operations is a cross-functional team that partners with senior leaders across the company, focusing on high-impact strategic projects and analysis
  • In this role, you’ll lead projects, working hand-in-hand with leadership, to identify, structure, and act on the most challenging strategic and operational questions impacting our business
  • This position will be based in San Francisco and report to our Head of Business Operations
  • Work cross-functionally with go-to-market and product stakeholders to define and implement strategy across all Notion products, driving increased value to our users and our business
  • Structure complex, ambiguous strategic problems for the Notion leadership team, defining clear hypotheses and building business cases and quantitative models that will inform and influence our approach - individually and with teams
  • Lead the definition and management of key drivers of business performance, identifying areas of opportunity and incorporating them into your work
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of our competitive positioning by using, assessing, and developing insights about peer businesses to inform your recommendations
  • Deeply understand Notion customers and the broader market landscape to uncover insights that inform your recommendations
  • Serve as a “talent magnet” for the Notion Business Operations team, helping to build a culture of repeatable excellence and hiring, developing, and retaining strong staff members

Our take

Managing busy workflows using fragmented systems can be a headache for both individuals and businesses. Notion aims to combat this problem by enabling users to work from one central hub, customizing their workflows to suit their exact needs. This includes managing files, scheduling tasks, saving documents, writing to-do-lists, and setting reminders.

The company counts enterprise companies such as McDonald’s, The Wall Street Journal, Verizon, Samsung, and IBM as its customers. In spite of economic uncertainty, Notion reached a $2 billion valuation in 2020, helped by record signups as more people were forced to work from home. Its value has since risen to over 5 times this value, an impressive reflection of its success.

The company has made a number of strategic acquisitions that, coupled with its enormous market value and enviable customer list, have Notion well-placed to continue dominating the market. That being said, the launch of Microsoft-built competitor Loop at the end of 2023 will put Notion's market dominance to the test.
