Role

Who you are

  • Qualified finance professional with either ACA, CIMA or CFA certification
  • Proven experience demonstrating a strong track record of success
  • Good understanding of financial management, accounting principles, and regulatory frameworks
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate at all levels
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Experience using Oracle NetSuite would be beneficial
  • Strong PowerPoint and presentation skills
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and consistency
  • Experience in producing executive-level presentations and reports
  • Team player with strong collaboration and communication skills

What the job involves

  • Treasury Planning and Cash Management: Manage all aspects of cash management across the business including operating and financing cashflows
  • Optimise funding efficiency through the effective deployment of financing cash across each of the Fintern financing vehicles
  • Conduct in-depth financial analysis to provide insights into funding efficiency performance and trends
  • Optimise the use of all Fintern cash to provide the best return possible
  • Manage the hedging strategies for Fintern balancing risk exposure with commercial impacts
  • Management Reporting: Prepare and present accurate and timely financial reports to the Board and Executive Team of Fintern
  • Provide insightful commentary on financial results, highlighting key performance indicators
  • Implement robust reporting mechanisms to enhance decision-making processes
  • Working Capital Management: Forecast, manage day to day, and report the working capital needs across all aspects of the business. Highlight risks and opportunities through well structured reporting and insights
  • Risk Management and Compliance: Monitor and assess financial risks, implementing strategies to mitigate potential issues
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and internal policies
  • Work with internal and external auditors to facilitate successful audits

Our take

Borrowers in the UK have been consistently over-charged in recent years, with lenders rejecting requests mostly on the basis of poor credit histories. Through Open Banking, Abound (formerly Fintern) is working to build a different approach that evaluates live transaction data, usually ignored by traditional lenders, in order to offer loans at more favourable prices.

Traditional banks are also slowly starting to use Open Banking data for income verification while other emerging firms, like Abound, are using it to support underwriting decisions. The company's technique allows it not to exclude people with limited or poor credit history and, instead, aims at defining a repayment plan that borrowers can realistically sustain over time.

A forward-looking approach is strongly needed in the lending industry, with the main improvement being the consideration in lending decisions of each customer's current circumstances and recent history. The challenge for Abound in the near future is to effectively exploit machine learning, technology and Open Banking Data while differentiating from the rest of the industry with its own customer-centric approach.
