Company mission

Our mission is to become the best platform for candidates and companies to find each other. We’ve merged with Welcome to the Jungle, and share a common vision of the need to reinvent the candidate job search experience and make job search less soul-crushing.

Role

Who you are

  • You’ve worked in fast-paced consumer tech scale-ups and take a user-centric approach to designing features and customer journeys
  • You’re motivated by solving problems for users, and constantly hone the experience through user research and testing
  • You’re at your best in a collaborative low-ego environment, working with product managers, engineers and other product designers
  • You are a clear communicator who knows when to advocate for your ideas and when to be pragmatic and compromise
  • You know when to be pixel-perfect and when to make low-fi sketches and prototypes for rapid iteration
  • You’re eager to learn and share knowledge as part of a wider design team of 5 designers, 2 design managers and 2 UX writers

What the job involves

  • You’ll work in the Expansion team alongside another product designer, 6 full-stack engineers and our heads of product and engineering. Welcome to the Jungle recently acquired Otta and we’re on an exciting journey to create a global leader in the world of work as part of a 100-person strong product and tech team spread across the UK and France
  • This team’s focus over the next 18 months is moving more of our free B2B customers to paid plans, launching new locations in the UK and the US, and bringing together the best of Otta and Welcome to the Jungle in a single global platform by 2026
  • You’ll work across the design lifecycle, from user research and testing to wireframing, prototyping and high-fidelity UI design, and across all of our expansion products. This includes our B2C web and mobile apps, our B2B products for recruiters, and our internal tooling
  • You'll use the UX analytics tool Contentsquare to help you understand user journeys, analyse page performance, and identify insights to inform your designs
  • You’ll contribute to our evolving design guidelines and design library, which we’re updating as part of developing a global Welcome to the Jungle brand
  • You’ll work alongside people in our commercial, marketing, production and operations teams, gaining a deeper understanding of the problems you’re trying to solve
  • You’ll work in 8-week cycles to shape and build initiatives using our own version of Basecamp's Shape Up methodology. We take a common sense approach to agile ways of working, optimising for outcomes over processes

Application process

  • 1. Initial interview to learn more about Welcome to the Jungle and Otta, and what you’re looking for next. This is a 45-minute call with Richa Arora (Talent Acquisition Manager).
  • 2. Portfolio review (or discussion of 1-2 projects from your career). This is a 60-minute interview with Ajay (Senior Product Designer) and Aurele (Product Director).
  • 3. Ideation workshop, which will delve deeper into skills and values assessment. This is a 90-minute interview with Janina (Senior Product Designer) and Julia (Head of Product).
  • 4. Final values interview. This is a 60-minute interview with Victor (Head of Design) and Billy (Head of Engineering).

Salary benchmarks

Our take

Looking for a job is a frustrating experience. It’s incredibly hard to find a good match. Job adverts lack useful information like salary and diversity data. Companies sometimes never respond. Otta was created in 2019 to make finding a job in tech less soul crushing.

In January 2024, Otta merged with Welcome to the Jungle. Our ambition is to become a global leader in the world of work, and help candidates and companies find each other through our job matching, recruiter solutions including employer brand, and media.

Otta and Welcome to the Jungle both believe in a future of work based on the power of matching. Both companies share the same DNA that disrupts market conventions and are obsessed with helping people find exciting and meaningful work.

  • What would it take to learn faster? — Speed of iteration typically beats quality of iteration. We move fast when it helps us learn faster - we feel safe taking risks, finding smart shortcuts, or shipping experiments

Diversity & Inclusion at Otta

Claudia Gallon headshot

Claudia Gallon (People Partner)

  • Though we’re quite early in our journey, our employees are starting to roll out initiatives that help us to better understand and empathise with each other and the world around us. We collect meaningful data in our onboarding survey, conduct privilege awareness workshops as part of employee onboarding, and anonymise tasks during interview processes to eliminate bias. Diverse employees make for an inclusive product.
  • We’re committed to a feedback-driven and transparent culture, as we work to make Otta a workplace where everyone feels welcome and all voices are heard. An environment where conversations between socially different people are seen as opportunities to learn, anticipate alternative viewpoints, and generally grow our business.
  • We’re continually iterating our product to do better. We collect meaningful diversity data from companies to inform candidates about gender split, we create transparency through sharing salary ranges, we donate to social mobility causes every time someone secures a new role through Otta. And there is so much more to come. We’re thankful for the opportunity to listen to and learn from our candidates.
  • Our Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) are integral to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace. Our Women’s Group, LGBTQIA+ Group, Disability Group, and Black Employee Network provide vital support and advocacy, creating spaces for connection, growth, and empowerment. Through these ERGs, we celebrate diversity and ensure every employee can bring their whole self to work.
