Our take

Nowadays, young people are often underserved by traditional news and media outlets. VICE solves this problem by creating content aimed specifically at the youth market. Founded as a magazine in 1994, the company has since expanded into digital media, filmmaking and broadcasting, covering subjects ranging from drugs, food, youth culture, music and more.

Although VICE has faced competition from outlets such as Vox and BuzzFeed, its bold and transgressive tone has allowed it to differentiate itself from its rivals. Affected by the decline in ad revenue across the media industry, 2022 presented a worrying year for the company - as it began to pursue a sale predicted to be more than five times lower than its 2017 valuation. However, fresh capital in the form of a multi-million dollar loan will allow it to settle debts and move forward with plans to secure a buyer and regroup the business for the future.
