Role
Who you are
- 3+ years overall professional development experience in Java
- Experience with Spring / Spring Boot (or similar frameworks)
- Excellent knowledge of relational databases and domain modeling
- Significant experience in designing and developing RESTful APIs
- Good understanding of microservices architectural patterns, design patterns & production troubleshooting methods
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and cloud services (AWS)
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code is a plus
- Experience with one of the modern front-end frameworks (React, Angular, Vue.js) is a plus
- Have a compelling reason why ocean protection is important to you
- Focused, driven, and know how to get the projects across the finish line
- Work independently and take responsibility and ownership of your work
- Passion for clean and beautiful code with an eye for simplicity and pragmatism

What the job involves
- We’re looking for an experienced backend engineer to help us shape the data structures and APIs which will enable the traceability of ocean-bound plastic
- In this role, you will work closely with the CTO and you will also be part of a cross-functional squad that includes engineering, data science and product
- Moreover, you will also interact with the operational team on the ground to always have the complete picture required to design the CleanHub traceability standard
- Be a key part of the entire development lifecycle from requirements to deployment and running the APIs and services in production
- Develop integrations with external services / APIs
- Work closely with product management to improve the solutions
- Provide help with front-end tasks, when needed
- Improve the robustness and reliability of the codebase
- Help to refine & extend our architecture
- Deploy and maintain production services

Many businesses aspire to reduce their plastic imprint and contribute to the global ocean cleanup, but organizing such projects and hiring trained volunteers is expensive and logistically difficult.
Cleanhub provides a global platform for waste collection, allowing brands to pay for the company to organize a fixed amount of waste cleanup every month, without the brand having to organize volunteers or logistics. Companies can be charged at a bespoke monthly rate or for every e-Commerce sale, and Cleanhub will collect waste, allowing the brand to track and share their progress.
Cleanhub has generated great interest from various industries internationally, and their customer base includes companies such as Noughty, Yamo and Everdrop as well as giants like Würth. Recent funding will be used to scale its operations with the aim of building out a foundational part of the world's waste management infrastructure.
