Who you are

  • Become a trusted advisor for Software Engineers, Architects, and Executives, driving platform adoption
  • Hands-on experience architecting complex, enterprise-level data streaming solutions
  • Experience with Kafka, Distributed systems, CDC Connectors, RDBMS or NoSQL databases, and ETL tools in enterprise environments
  • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to emerging technologies, particularly in the Kafka ecosystem
  • Familiarity with Java or Python, and knowledge of building ETL applications
  • 7+ Experience as a Solutions Engineer or Technical Account Manager
  • Experience operating within and across cross-functional teams including product management, engineering, sales, marketing, etc

  • Extensive knowledge of Kafka Connect, distributed data pipelines, and cloud integration (AWS, GCP, Azure)
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams

What the job involves

  • We’re looking for a seasoned technologist to join our Advanced Technology Team, a specialist group within Confluent that focuses on the deep technical aspects of Kafka and distributed systems
  • As a technical advisor to the sales team, you will collaborate closely with product management and engineering, serving as a product advocate to prospects and customers
  • This role demands expertise in Kafka, pre-sales engineering, and distributed systems
  • Ideal candidates may come from backgrounds such as Technical Account Managers, Sales Engineers, or Professional Services
  • Engage with Customers: Understand clients' challenges, helping them design distributed data architectures using Kafka, Kafka Connect, and distributed data processing
  • Provide Technical Expertise: Assist the sales team in architecture, deployment, and optimization of customer data streaming platforms, integrating Kafka and real-time processing
  • Collaborate Across Teams: Work with sales, product management, and engineering teams to turn customer feedback into product improvements
  • Educational Outreach: Lead workshops and technical sessions on the advanced capabilities of Kafka, Kafka Connect, and related data integration tools
  • Refine Messaging: Continuously improve and adapt messaging on Kafka and streaming solutions based on field feedback, Bring back lessons learned in the field and collaborate with product management, marketing, and enablement teams to incorporate them in a cycle of continuous improvement

Our take

Confluent is a commercial company built on top of the open-source Apache Kafka project. Confluent and Kafka have developed a streaming data technology that processes massive amounts of information in real-time.

The streaming database technology was developed at LinkedIn as a way of moving massive amounts of messages. The company decided to open-source that tech in 2011, and Confluent launched as the commercial arm in 2014.

While the base open-source component remains available for free download, it doesn’t include the additional tooling the company has built to make it easier for enterprises to use Kafka. Confluent's value add is in those additional tools, including a cloud version of the product and a marketplace for sharing extensions to the platform.

Confluent expanded strategic partnerships with Microsoft and acquired Immerok, and in 2023 expanded its cloud platform. 2024 saw further product expansions with the launch of the Confluent Migration Accelerator, all exemplifying how the company is living up to its name by rocket-boosting the benefits of Apache Kafka integration for companies.
