Our take

Mendel is a company of physicians and engineers, that improves medical research by adding huge swathes of previously untapped data into the clinical research process with extreme efficiency, transforming unstructured EMR data and clinical literature into comprehensive, compliant analytics-ready data.

The company distinguishes itself from other companies tackling the same problem in areas like law and finance by concentrating on medicine. The company has an AI knowledge base specifically in the area of medicine and a strategic partnership with eFax which will digitize eFaxes, still in use by 90% of the industry. Competition comes from DeepMind, a generalist in the space, covering all industries.

Rival DeepMind lost traction in the past with the UK NHS, as they were found to violate data-privacy laws. Mendel’s navigation of data-privacy regulations is strong, as it is able to de-identify personal health information, with an over 99% accuracy rate. The company has raised impressive funding and is well set to see continued growth.
