  • Experience in designing CVPs and bringing teams together
  • Experience in working with legal teams to design contracts, including multi year deals, to ensure relationships are documented and binding; whilst important, this is a nice to have, and we can provide training in this area

What the job involves

  • We’re on the hunt for a new Partnerships Development Manager to join our growing Partnerships team, who will focus on building relationships with new partnerships and nurturing existing ones.
  • You will develop long-term partner relationships with a diverse set of companies that bring on board significant volumes of high-quality customers and build brand equity for Octopus Electric Vehicles
  • You will be the face and the voice of Octopus Electric Vehicles across a wider range of sectors, including the financial services and/or automotive spaces, championing what we do and why we do it
  • A dedication to improving the B2B partner experience is a must along with expertise in relationship building and a commercial mindset
  • Develop the partner channel strategy for your assigned vertical in the context of our business goals (e.g. benefits providers, banks, OEMs, consultancies in the fleet and energy space etc.)
  • Identify the right long-term, mission aligned relationships, as well as build and establish the partner pipeline in collaboration with our other Partnerships Manager and the Customer Success and Partnerships Manager
  • A mix of phone and face to face meetings will be needed, including attending conferences and running networking events for partners
  • Manage your pipeline - both winning new business and managing it in life, recording progress in our CRM, and reporting on progress into the wider business
  • Manage the high level partner relationship to ensure we maximise output and maintain the best customer experience, including hosting quarterly business reviews and sharing monthly operational reports to partners
  • Generating quarterly commission statements for partners to feedback on their progress
  • Attend strategic events to spread the word of electric vehicles and how we can help!
  • Internal stakeholder management is just as important as external in this role; you will be working alongside Product and Marketing teams on channel and partner needs closely
  • Work with the wider teams to iterate propositions and materials for the B2B and growing B2C market with a view of developing partnerships in this area

Our take

According to Octopus, the energy industry in the UK is ruled by a handful of complacent companies peddling fossil fuels, pricing trickery, and poor customer service. Aiming to disrupt the status quo with sustainable energy, Octopus entered the market in 2016 and they now supply energy to millions of homes in a number of countries. Octopus has made a name for itself in energy circles largely because of its “Kraken” technology platform, which it claims is able to reroute energy from renewable sources around a network far more efficiently than competitors.

Octopus Energy further differentiates itself through its aspiration to make everything as easy as possible for consumers, from the simplicity of their bills and the fact that customers are not locked into a contract so they can leave at any time to offering customer service over email and social media at times that suit customers. They aim to make the eco‐friendly choice the easy choice, so all of their tariffs use 100% green electricity, while not being more expensive than their competitors' non-green tariffs.

They are continually creating innovative new products. For example, Octopus Tracker where prices changes daily to guarantee you get the market rate; Agile where the price changes every half hour to enable you to benefit from cheap electricity when the sun shines, the wind blows, and the networks are under-utilised. One of the current challenges they face is that their products are more complex than their competitors, given they use 1000x more data than traditional energy companies. They're exploring ways to explain to customers exactly how their products work.
