Who you are

  • The ideal candidate must have excellent communication skills, willingness to learn environmental regulations, particularly with respect to Extended Producer Responsibility regulations, demonstrated success in program management, and experience leading complex and technical projects
  • They must be comfortable in different roles, sometimes supporting, sometimes leading and have the ability to “roll up their sleeves” to drive initiatives to completion
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • 3+ Experience in compliance program management, legal, governance, audit, or equivalent
  • Speak, write, and read fluently in English
  • Experience handling confidential information

Desirable

  • Professional auditing qualification, or similar risk or compliance credentials
  • Experience with SQL and Excel
  • Experience in program requirements definition, together with data and metrics leveraging to drive improvements

What the job involves

  • Amazon is looking for a one year fixed term Compliance Program Manager to launch Extended Producer Responsibility compliance requirements for our selling partners
  • Extended Producer Responsibility is an environmental protection policy under which manufacturers, producers and distributors take responsibility for their products and packaging at their end of life, by establishing systems to collect and recycle post-consumer waste
  • This role requires coordination and direct efforts across multiple business teams to enable environmental compliance processes
  • The Program Manager will be specifically responsible for supporting compliance programs for selling partners in EU
  • They will help to develop the team strategy and mechanisms to support regulatory compliance, and provide guidance for business teams and selling partners
  • The individual will analyze regulations, establish and monitor metrics, and guide business teams in implementation of Amazon's recycling programs
  • They will work with internal and external partners that include government entities, consultants, recycling companies, business leaders and other key stakeholders
  • Design, coordinate and launch new EPR programs to respond to legal requirements in the EU, using hard data and evidence to drive decision-making
  • Interact with multiple stakeholders including government agencies, recyclers, consultants to communicate on operations and evaluate risks
  • Identify and prioritize regulatory requirements, define business requirements, and develop SOPs
  • Coordinate with technical and operational teams across time zones to develop new mechanisms that enable the program team to move faster and more effectively

Amazon's seen great success in the space, with its revenue from advertising now higher than its Amazon Prime membership scheme, audiobooks and digital music combined. This growth is particularly impressive considering its digital ad rivals (like Snap, Alphabet, and Meta) have suffered declines due to wider macroeconomic factors and Apple's iOS privacy changes.

Despite its dominant market position, Amazon will continue to be challenged over the next decade, including sustaining AWS's cloud dominance in the face of Google and Microsoft. On top of this, the company's e-commerce division is facing profitability problems despite its 2023 post-IPO debt funding of 8 billion. It will need to find new ways to stay above their competitors.
