To give the 4 billion people without access to internet the ability to get online.

Role

Who you are

  • Have a four-year degree in mechanical, aerospace, or equivalent technical degree (e.g. physics or applied math)
  • A passion and enthusiasm for hardware development, including working in a fast-paced environment and hands-on design and development
  • Demonstrated ability to personally design, build, and test hardware from scratch
  • US Citizenship or Green Card

Desirable

  • Experience with CAD
  • Experience with analytical software such as stress or thermal analysis
  • Experience with electromechanical system design and specification
  • Experience with control system modeling and design

What the job involves

  • Associate Engineer positions typically last for twelve weeks, and are salaried roles designed for students who have already received a bachelor's degree (or who will have done so before working at Astranis)
  • As an Associate Engineer, you will have an amazing opportunity to work on hard problems — we pride ourselves on giving everyone at Astranis a chance to do meaningful work on complex projects, and our Associate Engineers work on projects that are of equal importance and difficulty to the projects we give our full-time employees. Many past Associate Engineers have designed and tested hardware/software that is heading to space on our first satellite, and many now work at Astranis full-time
  • Work together with the engineering team to design, build, and test satellite hardware and/or software

Our take

Internet access is swiftly becoming a core feature of modern life across the world - as of 2021, nearly 60% of the global population were active internet users, and the number is only set to climb. Looking to facilitate and benefit from this are Astranis, who have developed advanced small-form factor satellite technology (similar to SpaceX) to improve satellite internet access across the world.

This has proven an astronomically successful proposition with an overwhelming demand from global customers, including a partnership to triple data speeds across the state of Alaska. This is no surprise, as provision of basic internet capabilities is in the interests of industry, governments, and the population at large.

With a valuation of $1.6 billion, the company's April 2023 injection of capital is set to ensure the company meets its production demands. Its satellite method is already groundbreaking and the company's first one launched in 2023. Two more launches are scheduled for 2024.
