Company mission

Amazon aims to be Earth’s most customer centric company. Their mission is to continually raise the bar of the customer experience by using the internet and technology to help consumers find, discover and buy anything, and empower businesses and content creators to maximise their success.

Role

Who you are

  • 8+ years of product or program management, product marketing, business development or technology experience
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience with feature delivery and tradeoffs of a product
  • Experience owning/driving roadmap strategy and definition
  • Experience with end to end product delivery
  • Experience contributing to engineering discussions around technology decisions and strategy related to a product
  • Experience technical product management

Desirable

  • Experience working directly with Engineers on product enhancements
  • Experience in project management methodologies, business analysis, or process improvement

What the job involves

  • This role will help define our next set of transporter facing products focused on providing evolutionary and revolutionary concepts delivery-teams use to execute day-off activities, to stay on-plan and when deviances occur resulting from on-ground realities (e.g., traffic, unpredictable delays etc.,), those plans quickly adjust accordingly, all towards ensuring the transporters continue to operate in a safe environment and we continue delivering packages to meet customer promise
  • The set of tools operate across multiple business types (same-day, grocery, speciality deliveries, pickups)
  • Our mission is to ensure every package is delivered at the right time, at the right location, in the right way according to the customer's preference
  • Our transporters deliver in many different use cases, ranging from single-family home, apartment units behind a locked gate, college campus, to countryside residences worldwide
  • This role ensures that we provide all involved teams the most accurate visibility into on-road delivery execution progress of transporters, as well as accurate signals for timely and accurate payments
  • To succeed in this mission, it will be done through identifying opportunities to streamline the tools for various user personas, and reduce the cognitive load to utilize the tool's benefits, across various device modalities,
  • This role is inherently cross-functional—this leader will work closely with engineering, program management, design, operations, finance, legal, business development, customer service, and executive teams to bring products to market, develop and grow business opportunities, and enhance our existing products and features
  • A successful candidate will be highly analytical, resourceful, customer-focused, team oriented, and will have an ability to work independently under time constraints to meet deadlines
  • The leader will have a proven track record in taking on end-to-end ownership and successfully delivering results in a fast-paced and dynamic business environment
  • This role requires autonomy and an ability to deliver results, often within the ambiguity of building a v1 product
  • You will need to work efficiently to build the right things with limited guidance, raising the bar to create an amazing experience for our transporters
  • Playing a key role in the Transporter Experience team, as a Product Manager, you will be responsible for the product definition and feature roadmap for multiple projects
  • You will work closely with multiple stakeholder/business teams, your engineering and UX/UI counterparts to identify business requirements, measuring and sharing progress against goals, and championing adoption with our customers through in-field research and testing
  • You will bring your experience of defining and releasing similar successful products at scale, preferably in consumer or industrial verticals
  • This role also expects identifying net new opportunities for Amazon and Last Mile, and taking them from an idea, through evangelizing, defining and materializing as our next set of investments

Our take

Amazon is the world's largest online retailer, and is well-known for its disruption of well-established industries. The company is present in numerous verticals, including cloud computing with Amazon Web Services, AI with its range of Alexa devices and a global marketplace more commonly referred to as 'the everything store'. Acquisitions include Ring, Twitch, Whole Foods Market, and IMDb.

More recently, Amazon has been focused on leading the "third wave in digital advertising". Many businesses are now shifting ad dollars to retailers, which before would have been spent with online media platforms. Amazon's seen great success in the space, with its revenue from advertising now higher than its Amazon Prime membership scheme, audiobooks and digital music combined. This growth is particularly impressive considering its digital ad rivals (like Snap, Alphabet, and Meta) have suffered declines due to wider macroeconomic factors and Apple's iOS privacy changes.

Despite its dominant market position, Amazon will continue to be challenged over the next decade, including sustaining AWS's cloud dominance in the face of Google and Microsoft. On top of this, the company's e-commerce division is facing profitability problems despite its 2023 post-IPO debt funding of 8 billion. It will need to find new ways to stay above their competitors.
