Role

Who you are

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or STEM-related field
  • 3+ years of industry experience in testing complex systems (AI, autonomous behavior, modeling, simulation, or vehicle platforms)
  • Experience with designing, developing, and executing test methodologies that scale across multiple teams
  • Strong software development experience with high-level language (Python, pytest, C++, etc.), along with version control systems (e.g Git)
  • Integrated systems troubleshooting experience

Desirable

  • Experience with Hardware in the Loop (HIL) and/or Simulation in the Loop (SIL)
  • Experience with issue reporting tools (e.g. Jira, Azure Dev Ops)
  • Experience with Linux and Unix based systems

What the job involves

  • Zoox is seeking a highly motivated System Test Engineer to be a technical contributor supporting the System Integration and Validation team
  • You will be working on the integration and validation of autonomy, firmware, hardware, cloud, and operational elements to ensure the product meets safety, customer needs, and milestone readiness
  • You will be responsible for designing and developing test efforts at the highest level of integration, including feature validation, functional, and regression testing toward the successful execution and reporting of these efforts
  • Develop test plans and test cases that are abstracted to the highest level of integration
  • Focus on automating testing utilizing internal Hardware in the Loop (HIL) assets
  • Review data, collect metrics, and provide quantitative evidence to report on milestone readiness
  • Analyze vehicle logs and test data using in-house tools to trace failures for root cause analysis, documentation, and communication
  • Support defect management process from recognition to resolution

Our take

Zoox, a self-driving vehicle company, was founded to make personal transportation safer and more enjoyable for all. It has aimed to achieve this goal by creating a new mode of driverless transportation, thus eradicating the safety and logistical issues that come with human drivers.

It revealed its custom vehicle design in December 2020, showcasing something different from just a car without a driver. Uniquely, all four wheels are independent of one another, and the vehicles have no front or back, making them more agile than a standard car. Zoox claims that it is different from other industry players because it has created an entire driverless ecosystem, including the vehicle itself, allowing it to have more control.

The company is fast becoming a major player in an industry that is predicted to be worth $2 trillion by 2030. Electric motors are highly desirable, particularly in an urban environment, as governments look for ways to reduce emissions and improve air quality. Zoox is aiming to play a vital role in this evolution towards more sustainable urban mobility. Amazon acquired the company in 2020 and, despite a general downturn in the sector through 2022, is building a Zoox factory and budgeting $1 billion per year for future development and production.
