Role

Who you are

  • Applicants must be critical thinkers who are quick to detect, resolve, or escalate issues that are sometimes broad in scope and difficult to trace
  • FSI engineers may be exposed to material non-public information through the course of their work. For this reason, and due to the nature of the highly regulated industry in which our customers operate, FSI engineers may be subject to enhanced background checks and additional constraints around the trading of securities
  • The successful candidate will understand this and have willingness to participate in enhanced background checks and agreements with customers which may include, but are not limited to, customer review of any proposed trades on behalf of the FSI engineer, before they are executed
  • Experience with our product is not a prerequisite, but a background in SRE/Cloud Operations/Support within the financial sector, working directly with a large institution in various capacities—whether as an employee, contractor, or consultant—is critical for the role
  • Systems engineering experience, including Linux performance, memory management, I/O tuning, configuration, security, networking, clusters, and troubleshooting
  • Proficient in comprehensive issue analysis across application, database, and storage layers
  • Experience with at least one of the major cloud providers (Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure)
  • Experience in monitoring, system performance data collection and analysis, and reporting
  • Knowledge of database operations and concepts
  • Solid understanding of web and network protocols and standards (HTTP, TLS, DNS, etc)
  • Capability to write small programs/scripts to solve short-term systems problems in at least 1 of the following programming languages: Java, Go, Python, Javascript
  • Proficient in timely and effective communication with diverse stakeholders, both internal and external. Demonstrates the capacity to influence decisions and adeptly tailors communication style to align with the needs of the audience
  • Willingness and ability to travel to customer sites during the working week when required
  • A keen interest in learning new things

What the job involves

  • The Cloud Operations Engineering team at MongoDB is a worldwide team responsible for the consistent operational success of every MongoDB Atlas customer
  • As a Cloud Operations Engineer, you will help ensure the success of our Atlas customers, whether they are early startups or large multinational companies, cloud-native or just getting started with a digital transformation to the cloud
  • Cloud Operations Engineer plays a pivotal role in overseeing and elevating day-to-day operations of MongoDB Atlas. This extends beyond routine tasks, encompassing strategic planning, active participation in technical discussions with internal teams, mentoring, and adeptly handling critical and escalated cases
  • This is a hybrid role that will require 3 days a week in our CITY office, with a specific focus on supporting MongoDB Atlas customers within the financial services sector
  • You will deliver results that meet our FSI customers stringent requirements for security and availability
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management, driving prompt resolution of incidents and building trust with FSI customers
  • Developing understanding of our FSI customer’s specific technologies, regulations, and policies to effectively address customer needs
  • Collaborating with teammates across our Customer Engineering organizations to ensure seamless handovers and cross-functional solutions for FSI customers
  • Coordinate and participate in a weekly on-call rotation, where you will handle short term customer incidents (proactively from automated monitoring or through reactive alerts via our Technical Services team)
  • Contributing to knowledge sharing and documentation of best practices, specializing in FSI customers
  • Help scale the worldwide Cloud Operations Engineering team with the strategic implementation and refinement of new processes and tools
  • At MongoDB you will grow your career and skills, wear multiple hats, and be part of an operations team that works at the frontier of Cloud services and database systems

Salary benchmarks

Our take

MongoDB is an open-source, cross-platform, document-oriented database system. It stores data as JSON-like documents and is written in C++, Go, JavaScript and Python.

Essentially, the company develops tools and blueprints to help businesses and organisations modernise their legacy applications, migrating them to the MongoDB database and the MongoDB Atlas cloud database. With this initiative, MongoDB is particularly taking aim at Oracle customers with ageing applications running on the Oracle relational database system.

Since its release, MongoDB has become one of the most popularly used NoSQL database systems due to its ease of use and efficiency. It is also the fastest-growing database ecosystem, and boasts hundreds of millions of downloads. Recently, the company announced a partnership with Patronus AI, an automated evaluation and security platform, through which it will bring automated LLM evaluation and testing capabilities to enterprise customers.
