Company mission

Entertainment, like friendship, is a fundamental human need; it changes how we feel and gives us common ground. Netflix is better entertainment at lower cost and greater scale than the world has ever seen. They want to entertain everyone, and make the world smile.

Role

Who you are

  • You are a meticulous and responsive cross-team communicator and program leader
  • Your technical background aligns with the current team operating at the intersection of software engineering, incident response, and digital forensics
  • You are well versed in the latest adversary techniques, attack lifecycle, and incident response procedures
  • You can successfully coach, mentor, develop, and inspire a talented and senior team
  • You are confident in working with frontline teammates, executives, and third-party organizations to inform and coordinate collaborative efforts
  • You can drive success with minimal process and a heavy emphasis on individual responsibility
  • You cultivate team morale and culture and partner with leadership to implement strategies for managing the high-velocity and often stressful tempo
  • You have experience managing a hybrid team of in-person and remote engineers

What the job involves

  • As part of Detection and Response, the Security Incident Response Team partners closely with Security Operations and Intelligence and Detection Engineering
  • You’ll lead a team that focuses on incident response preparedness and best practices, identification and mitigation of security incidents, builds its own tools and automation, and works with the broader information security org to identify and reduce risks
  • This is a mature and globally distributed team, and we are looking for a leader who can manage a hybrid team of security software engineers and security engineers, evolve the incident response program to handle rapidly changing business requirements and align closely with other incident management teams across the business
  • The person in this role will own, build, and advance our incident response charter, including games, insider risk, and regulatory assessments
  • You will closely collaborate with many other Netflix teams to actively defend Netflix’s assets across streaming, studio, games, and enterprise
  • This is an active and highly visible role that requires an appreciation for operational excellence, a pragmatic view of risk, and a strong ability to build cross-functional relationships

Otta's take

Xav Kearney

CTO of Otta

Netflix was started when one of the co-founders had received a $40 late fee after failing to return a film on time. Now, Netflix is one of the fastest growing technology companies, reinventing the entertainment space by providing high quality content for low fees.

This is becoming an increasingly competitive space, with deep-pocketed rivals including Amazon, Disney, Apple and AT&T. They are all spending big on content and pricing cheaply in a battle to win subscribers.

After a dwindling number of subscribers due to tough competition in 2022, Netflix is focused and committed to improving its core service which is its TV, movies and now games going forward. Post-IPO funding of $183 million from Winslow Capital at the end of 2023 followed the previous year's dumping of shares by the same company after Netflix's first loss of subscribers. This capital indicates a shifting perspective on Netflix's outlook, which saw a year-end subscriber boost.
