Who you are

  • The ideal candidate is a proactive dealmaker and strategic thinker, with a proven track record of driving business growth through the full lifecycle of large-scale partnerships
  • 10+ years of experience in FinTech and/or SaaS in strategic business development, strategic partnerships, or corporate development
  • Demonstrated track record of sourcing, structuring, and closing complex, high-impact partnerships that drive significant revenue growth
  • Strategic mindset with a deep understanding of both B2B and B2C FinTech business models
  • Exceptional leadership skills, with experience in building and scaling business development teams focused on new business acquisition
  • Superior communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels
  • Proven ability to thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous environments, driving strategic initiatives from concept to completion with a sense of urgency
  • Strong financial acumen, with experience in developing and managing economic models for partnerships
  • High degree of self-motivation, ownership, and a relentless drive to deliver measurable business impact
  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or other relevant advanced degree preferred

What the job involves

  • We are looking for a tenacious and results-oriented Senior Director of Strategic Business Development to spearhead the identification, pursuit, and acquisition of new high-value strategic partnerships and untapped partner categories
  • This role is pivotal in propelling Flex’s growth, with a primary focus on hunting down and securing de novo partnerships that will significantly expand our market reach and revenue streams
  • Reporting to the SVP of Business Development & Strategic Partnerships and collaborating closely with executive leadership and cross-functional teams, you will be at the forefront of maximizing Flex's potential in new and emerging markets
  • Identify, sell, and launch new high-value strategic partnerships
  • Execute go-to-market strategies with new partners, ensuring rapid and successful launches
  • Innovate and refine pitch strategies to penetrate new partnership segments and verticals
  • Serve as the primary liaison between Flex and senior executives at partner organizations, fostering strong, long-term relationships
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to structure, negotiate, and finalize winning commercial terms
  • Work closely with Finance to model partnership economics, ensuring alignment with Flex’s goals
  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing business development team with a focus on new partnership acquisition
  • Design and implement scalable processes, frameworks, and best practices to support Flex’s growth objectives and ensure consistent success in partnership acquisition

Our take

Many people struggle to pay their rent every month, with a variety of bills hitting their bank accounts simultaneously. Whilst many of these people earn enough money to cover their bills, the inflexible nature of monthly bills can make the all-in-one payment a harder obstacle.

Flex provides a mobile application for the flexible payment of rent, allowing users to pay their landlords through flexible payment plans, reschedule payments when necessary, and protect their funds through Overdraft Protection. The company achieves this by partnering with estate agents and paying their resident's bills upfront, taking on the challenges that landlords would normally have due to late payments.

Flex has experienced extremely rapid growth since its founding which has caused some issues, as it struggled to keep up with the surge in new customers. Having made improvements to its product and scaled its customer service team, it is set to continue providing a service that has come to be highly valued by both tenants and landlords.
