Who you are

  • 4-7 years of work experience, including some combination of top-tier performance in investment banking, private equity / venture capital, and operational roles at high-growth B2B technology companies. Prior corporate development experience is a bonus
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical/quantitative or business-related field or equivalent practical experience. Degree in an engineering field is a bonus
  • Interest in and knowledge of the internet infrastructure landscape and business models. Prior experience in cybersecurity, infrastructure, developer tools, and other B2B SaaS businesses is a bonus
  • Exceptionally high levels of curiosity, empathy, and accountability
  • Experience executing on high-visibility, time-sensitive strategic initiatives
  • Willingness to roll up your sleeves and take on tasks no matter how big or small
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to articulate contractual, technical, financial and value points.Self-directed and self-motivated; excellent communicator and ability to build trust with both internal and external stakeholders

What the job involves

  • We are looking for a talented individual who thrives in fast-paced, high-growth environments to join the M&A and Strategy team within our Special Projects organization
  • On the M&A front, this person will help drive sourcing and execution of potential acquisitions and partner closely with M&A integration leaders to ensure post-merger success
  • This team also leads cross-functional strategic initiatives to develop solutions to thorny business challenges identified by Cloudflare’s leadership or to explore new areas of opportunity
  • In order to succeed in this role, candidates should demonstrate strong financial analysis and M&A execution capabilities, ability to proactively drive initiatives end-to-end with limited oversight, proven ability to partner with cross-functional teams, and a strong interest in Cloudflare’s technology and the markets we compete in
  • Serve as a key member of Cloudflare’s corporate strategy and development team
  • Corporate development: Play a key role on all phases of M&A from ideation through execution; partner with the Special Projects M&A integration team
  • Partner with cross-functional leaders to research and identify Cloudflare’s M&A priorities
  • Help support deal sourcing efforts and growth of Cloudflare’s M&A pipeline
  • Work with cross-functional teams (ex
  • Product, engineering, finance, human resources, legal, etc.) to both lead and support various deal execution efforts
  • Own valuation and financial analysis workstreams
  • Corporate strategy: independently find and communicate thoughtful, well-informed solutions to complex operational challenges, and help jumpstart new initiatives that further Cloudflare’s mission to help build a better Internet

Our take

Cloudflare is a multi-service global network that provides web security and infrastructure, DDoS mitigation services, and a content delivery network. Founded in 2009, Cloudflare has risen to become an industry giant, with around 25 million global internet properties on its network.

Cloudflare has been responsible for a number of admirable initiatives, offering free web protection to human rights groups, journalists, artists, and US election websites. This goes some way to counteracting the flak Cloudflare has received in some circles for the controversial groups and users who use its services. This chequered history, however, has not affected its over 80% market share in the content delivery network field.

This is perhaps in part because it has proven sharp at staying abreast of the rapidly morphing tech and digital space and customer demands. For example, Cloudflare is shifting to 100% renewable energy usage to create a zero-emissions internet, and in 2020 released a feature that would help users navigate data privacy regulations by selecting where their data is stored.

The cloud infrastructure market reached $53 billion in 2022. While the Big 3 (Amazon, Microsoft, and Google) own 65% of the market, that still leaves billions of dollars left for companies such as Cloudflare. Its ambitious and successful work is likely to continue being a crucial feature of the web, but in 2023, placed it in the crosshairs of hackers looking to exploit its infrastructure. The beginning of 2024 saw Cloudflare vow to bolster its security and patch vulnerabilities.
