Role
Who you are
- Extensive Experience: Bring 7+ years in the software development industry within a fast-paced tech environment, including at least 2 years of leadership experience
- Technical Proficiency: Expertise in Core Java, web services, queueing and streaming frameworks, REST APIs and SQL/PostgreSQL. Good understanding also of building frontend applications leveraging well established frameworks such as React, Typescript, Vue.js
- Innovative Mindset: Not afraid to challenge the status quo and possess an innate curiosity to question the "why."
- Leadership Qualities: Dynamic self-starter adept at fostering alignment across multiple teams, with strong coaching and mentoring capabilities, and experienced in leading technical projects in a fast-paced environment
- Strategic Thinking: Proven track record of collaborating with senior leadership to shape strategic direction, including product roadmaps
- Communication and Team Player: Exceptional communicator who can clearly explain technical concepts to non-engineers, foster a culture of collaboration, and exhibit robust management skills and technical acumen
- Hands-On Approach: Comfortable with hands-on work in our codebase and able to define, implement, and monitor performance KPIs to quickly identify opportunities for improvement in existing systems
- 2+ years experience in managing engineering teams within an Java environment
- 7+ years of experience in software development in a fast paced tech environment
What the job involves
- The focus of our Platform and Financial Services solution is on building a single platform for embedded payments, finance, onboarding and compliance
- The ambition is to fill the gap in the market by providing platforms and marketplaces with financial products such as capital, issuing of cards and bank accounts
- The Onboarding team specifically focuses on building a best in class experience regarding collection and verification of KYC information that allows the enablement of these financial services
- As Team Lead you will be part of a dynamic cross-functional team of motivated individuals (backend and frontend engineers) who help each other achieve remarkable results every day
- We face unique technical challenges at scale and solve them together, delivering innovative and ethical solutions that transform the way the world’s finances work
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with product, engineers, data engineers, and other key stakeholders within Adyen
- Product Strategy: Craft a long-term vision for your team's product together with your product counterpart, balancing trade-offs pragmatically and aligning it with the overarching company vision
- Team Motivation and Coaching: Exhibit leadership and inspire your team members, acting as a catalyst by coaching in areas such as engineering best practices, scalable architecture design, and product roadmap planning, thus having a multiplier effect
- Goal Setting: Establish clear individual and team objectives that harmonize with Adyen's strategic data and engineering ambitions, working closely with the product manager to achieve alignment
- Team Environment: Cultivate an inspirational and collaborative team environment characterized by open communication and a culture of constructive feedback, focusing on autonomy, ownership, collaboration, communication, and impact
- Talent Acquisition: Lead the recruitment of new team members who embody the Adyen culture and possess the requisite skills to make meaningful contributions
- Feature Development: Collaborate with different teams to design and implement new features, considering reliability, infrastructure, data, and development needs. Be hands-on yourself in the development of these features, while balancing that with your team’s needs

Our take
Adyen has been one of the most successful businesses in Europe over the last decade. When it went public in 2018 at a valuation of €7bn, it raised over €1bn and its share price popped on the first day, resulting in a valuation of €14bn. Its valuation has continued to climb by the billions.
Adyen competes with large players like PayPal, as well as outsized startups like Stripe, to power payments and provide other infrastructure to conduct digital transactions. Disrupters in the field have been buoyed by a strong rise in eCommerce activity, where some or all of a transaction by a customer is made either online or by mobile.
Adyen has been one of the companies riding the wave by helping to reduce the friction between a company choosing to take payments online, and actually being able to do it. That can take multiple steps and agreements across numerous countries — Adyen’s pitch is that it essentially handles all of it in the backend as a service for its users. Notable partners have included Autocanteen, a touchless self-checkout solution for the hospitality industry, and BILL, a small business-focused fintech platform.
