Who you are

  • You have at least 4+ years experience in a software engineering role, not including internships, using Java, Kotlin, Python and/or GoLang
  • You have professional experience using build tools such as Gradle, Bazel, Jenkins, Buildkite, Docker, Kubernetes
  • You have experience working on developer tools and infrastructure
  • You love making other developers more productive
  • You apply a product mindset to infrastructure
  • You love systems and software and are competent in both
  • Although not required, experience with Helm, AWS, Artifactory and Terraform would be helpful for those in this role

What the job involves

  • The Build Platform team is part of the Core Infrastructure organization that builds and operates reliable, scalable and repeatable cloud infrastructure for DoorDash developers to ship great products quickly and reliably
  • The Build Platform team focuses on how to get all the work of our development teams safely and quickly into our production environments
  • They have a wide skill set, including coding, systems design, architecture, integration, and overall understanding of scale and developer productivity
  • The systems and tools they build are used by all DoorDash developers!
  • Design, build, operate and maintain tools and infrastructure for building, testing and deploying software into production
  • Lead projects that make the process of shipping code to production a fast and enjoyable experience
  • You will report into the Engineering Manager over the Build Platform team within our Infrastructure Org
  • Make DoorDash the best place to develop services and applications
  • Have the ability to improve all aspects of the software development lifecycle
  • Enable all DoorDash developers to launch great products for our customers

DoorDash was an early entrant into the last-mile restaurant delivery business, which is now crowded with the likes of Uber Eats, Postmates and GrubHub. They offer restaurants an end-to-end delivery platform, generating new business and access to a network of delivery drivers.

To differentiate itself in the market, DoorDash focused on areas with fewer competitors and found success in this untapped market. Other factors, such as the company's targeting of restaurants which many not typically offer a delivery service, also contribute to its profitability. The company made its stock market debut in 2020 with one of the biggest IPOs of the year.

However, in light of increasing discontent around DoorDash's commission structure from restaurants, competition remains fierce. The business recently responded by publishing a transparent fee structure, but the number of options open to restaurants means DoorDash must fight to keep its customers loyal. Despite this, by focusing on consumer retention, logistics and technology, the company is likely able to maintain its existing growth and revenue.
