- 4+ years of relevant experience, ideally in employment law
- Commercial or M&A experience is desirable but not required

What the job involves
- We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Legal Counsel to oversee all legal matters within the organisation
- The ideal candidate will have extensive expertise in commercial and employment law in the UK. Backgrounds in mergers and acquisitions (M&A) are desirable but not essential
- You’ll be joining Zen in a key position, navigating us through complex legal matters while providing strategic guidance to senior management
- This role is a crucial part of enabling Zen’s growth and scalability

- Lead on commercial law including drafting and review of a range of commercial contracts and agreements
- Lead employment law and provide counsel on UK employment law, including employee relations, contracts, policies, and compliance. Oversee employment litigation and dispute resolution
- Support Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) transactions, including due diligence, negotiation, and integration. Coordinate with external legal advisors and consultants during M&A activities
- Advise the executive team and Board of Directors on complex legal matters, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, industry regulations, data protection laws, and corporate governance standar

Zen Educate is focused on tackling the pain points in the industry and providing a way to ensure schools get the best teachers possible.
It provides an online platform as an alternative to recruitment agencies, which is the only online platform accredited by the UK's Department of Education, helping schools fill staffing needs quickly and cost-effectively. Schools using the platform have reportedly saved 20-30% on supply cover costs. Zen Educate aims to save the education system £14 million per year by 2024 with its smarter approach.
Zen also operates Zen Locum, a service aimed at solving similar problems for pharmacies and opticians. Offering higher rates and greater flexibility than bigger locum health services such as Tesco Pharmacy, it has already seen high uptake with over 500 new joiners a month.
