Role

Who you are

  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in IT, with at least 3 years in a leadership role managing technical teams
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with a track record of mentoring and developing technical staff
  • Proven expertise in engineering and managing desktop environments across multiple operating systems (Windows, macOS, Ubuntu) using central management tools such as Jamf Pro, Microsoft Endpoint Manager, or similar
  • Strong experience with VMware Horizon ecosystem, including deployment, configuration, and management of VDI solutions
  • Familiarity with the full VDI lifecycle, from design and implementation to maintenance and optimization, with a focus on delivering a high-quality user experience
  • Exceptional communication skills, capable of effectively articulating technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Desirable

  • Experience with desktop management in specialized environments such as manufacturing facilities and fleet operation centers, including the deployment and maintenance of rugged devices and the implementation of solutions tailored to high-availability and mission-critical operations
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices and tools
  • Certifications in relevant technologies and management

What the job involves

  • Zoox is seeking a highly motivated and experienced IT Endpoint Engineering Manager to lead our dynamic Endpoint Engineering team
  • This pivotal role is responsible for overseeing the engineering of desktop environments for Windows, macOS, and Ubuntu through central management tools, ensuring optimal performance, security, and user experience
  • The successful candidate will manage a team of 7 engineers, including VDI Engineers, and will play a key role in promoting the best possible employee experience and productivity levels across the compan
  • Lead and manage the Endpoint Engineering team, setting clear objectives, evaluating performance, and facilitating professional development
  • Oversee the design, engineering, and evolution of desktop environments across Windows, macOS, and Ubuntu, ensuring adherence to Zoox standards for performance and stability
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver solutions that are reliable, secure, and scalable
  • Ensure the development and maintenance of comprehensive documentation, including standard operating procedures, configuration guides, and knowledge base articles
  • Drive the identification, evaluation, and recommendation of cutting-edge technologies and tools for endpoint management
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging the team to analyze current processes and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and advancements in endpoint technologies, leveraging insights to guide strategic direction and innovation within the team

Our take

Zoox, a self-driving vehicle company, was founded to make personal transportation safer and more enjoyable for all. It has aimed to achieve this goal by creating a new mode of driverless transportation, thus eradicating the safety and logistical issues that come with human drivers.

It revealed its custom vehicle design in December 2020, showcasing something different from just a car without a driver. Uniquely, all four wheels are independent of one another, and the vehicles have no front or back, making them more agile than a standard car. Zoox claims that it is different from other industry players because it has created an entire driverless ecosystem, including the vehicle itself, allowing it to have more control.

The company is fast becoming a major player in an industry that is predicted to be worth $2 trillion by 2030. Electric motors are highly desirable, particularly in an urban environment, as governments look for ways to reduce emissions and improve air quality. Zoox is aiming to play a vital role in this evolution towards more sustainable urban mobility. Amazon acquired the company in 2020 and, despite a general downturn in the sector through 2022, is building a Zoox factory and budgeting $1 billion per year for future development and production.
