Who you are

  • To be someone who gets real energy from talking to customers, and helping figure out solutions
  • To have fantastic written communication skills, able to vary your tone and intended outcome based on whom you’re speaking to
  • To be comfortable talking to customers in one moment, and to businesses and on social media the next
  • To take an organised approach to keeping an eye on day-to-day communications and operations, whilst being willing to turn your attention to new tasks: Octopus Electroverse is growing fast and we need someone who’s willing to jump on new problems and opportunities as part of the wider team
  • To not be afraid to get a bit technical - for example you might be pulling data from our admin portal and reporting it to the wider team
  • Prior knowledge of EVs & EV tech isn’t required (we’re pushing new boundaries after all!), but an interest in and desire to know more about the industry is important

What the job involves

  • We’re looking for a Customer Specialist to join our operations team and delight our customers as we grow Electroverse
  • You’ll speak to both individual and business customers, reply to conversations on social media, and even use our in-built translation software to speak to our customers around the world
  • Take a leading role in looking after Electroverse customers: from sign-up questions, card requests, app feedback, and more, you’ll be the voice of our growing brand
  • Deliver high-quality care and support for both businesses and individuals. Octopus is known for its amazing customer service in energy, and we provide that same quality for our EV customers
  • Dig into the technical side of the product as you solve customer queries
  • Get to grips with social media management and brand tone of voice as you help represent Electroverse on social platforms
  • As a core part of the team, you’ll stay up to date with the latest Electroverse features and new releases and be able to talk about these with customers
  • Work with the wider team to deeply understand the customer ecosystem and suggest ways in which we can improve as we grow

According to Octopus, the energy industry in the UK is ruled by a handful of complacent companies peddling fossil fuels, pricing trickery, and poor customer service. Aiming to disrupt the status quo with sustainable energy, Octopus entered the market in 2016 and they now supply energy to millions of homes in a number of countries. Octopus has made a name for itself in energy circles largely because of its “Kraken” technology platform, which it claims is able to reroute energy from renewable sources around a network far more efficiently than competitors.

Octopus Energy further differentiates itself through its aspiration to make everything as easy as possible for consumers, from the simplicity of their bills and the fact that customers are not locked into a contract so they can leave at any time to offering customer service over email and social media at times that suit customers. They aim to make the eco‐friendly choice the easy choice, so all of their tariffs use 100% green electricity, while not being more expensive than their competitors' non-green tariffs.

They are continually creating innovative new products. For example, Octopus Tracker where prices changes daily to guarantee you get the market rate; Agile where the price changes every half hour to enable you to benefit from cheap electricity when the sun shines, the wind blows, and the networks are under-utilised. One of the current challenges they face is that their products are more complex than their competitors, given they use 1000x more data than traditional energy companies. They're exploring ways to explain to customers exactly how their products work.
