What the job involves

  • The Merchant Experiences team is responsible for the core user-facing surfaces enabling millions of businesses to manage their online payments and grow their business with Stripe
  • We build and maintain the Stripe Dashboard across desktop and mobile, empowering businesses with an intuitive and powerful interface to manage their Stripe account and access Stripe's products
  • As the gateway to Stripe, the Dashboard is the primary touchpoint where users configure their account, monitor their business, and discover new Stripe features
  • Our team ensures merchants have a great experience that showcases the best of Stripe
  • The Merchant Experiences team is hiring an Engineering Manager that will be responsible for leading a team of senior engineers in defining and driving significant changes across our products in the Dashboard surface area
  • You will have direct involvement with driving the strategic vision of Stripe’s Dashboard and the products delivered through it. If you’re looking for high impact and visibility for delivering on key strategic goals for the company,
  • As one of the lead managers within the Merchant Experiences team, you will be leading a team of senior engineers for key strategic goals for the company (high visibility and impact), empowered to drive significant changes across products in the Dashboard surface area
  • You will have direct involvement with driving the strategic vision of Stripe’s Dashboard and the products delivered through it
  • You will partner closely with product, design, and engineering teams across Stripe, serving as the steward of Stripe's user experience
  • You will enable Stripe teams to develop new products and features by providing the building blocks and infrastructure to create great user experiences
  • Navigation and information architecture to intuitively organize Stripe's products
  • Search and discoverability to help users quickly find what they need
  • Dashboard home to surface key insights and guide merchants to relevant features
  • Mobile experiences to let users manage their business on the go
  • UI components and patterns that enable product teams to quickly ship new features

Our take

Stripe, nowadays a FinTech giant, spent the first few years since its founding building up its payments business, which primarily consisted of providing an API to eCommerce businesses so that they could easily integrate a payments option in their apps or websites, where before there was none.

More recently, Stripe has started to accelerate its growth with a significantly larger range of financial services including cash advances and credit cards. They also plan to build incorporation services, fraud protection, and more, diversifying its revenue away from payments and differentiating itself from its competitors.

To further expand its position, the company is looking to triple its presence in Ireland, and extend its services to countries with vast customer potential, including Brazil and India. Its latest venture, coming atop significant new funds, is to partner with OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT - a win-win collaboration that will monetize OpenAI’s flagship products and at the same time enhance Stripe with GPT-4, as it moves forwards with intentions to "build the payments foundation for tomorrow's AI economy."
