Role
Who you are
- A JD from an accredited law school; licensed and in good standing to practice law
- A minimum of 6 years of legal experience, including at least 2 years advising on compliance issues at a leading law firm. In-house experience is preferred
- Experience in developing and implementing compliance programs
- Strong research skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proactive, detail-oriented, and highly organized. Ability to guide projects from inception through completion
- Outstanding judgment with the ability to understand the criticality and urgency of issues and prioritize them as appropriate within a fast-paced environment, providing clarity and direction to the team and to others throughout the company
- Strong business judgment to anticipate legal issues or risks and build the processes and systems to prevent them from occurring
- Ability to apply a high level of discretion, common sense and good judgment to ambiguous situations
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with proven ability to communicate complex legal concepts confidently and effectively across multiple departments and levels within the organization
What the job involves
- Provide strategic legal advice and guidance on a broad range of compliance issues, including telemarketing, identity verification, fraud prevention, registered agent and CMRA operations
- Develop, implement and monitor internal policies, procedures, and training programs to ensure organizational compliance
- Apply excellent legal and business judgment in performing risk assessments and audits to identify and size potential compliance gaps
- Stay abreast of evolving legal and regulatory landscapes relevant to LegalZoom’s operations
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, product, and fulfillment to assist the company with meeting its compliance obligations
- Contribute to other legal department goals and duties as needed
