  • 10+ years of UX designer or interaction designer experience
  • Have an online portfolio or samples of work on resume, demonstrating experience creating great end-to-end, user-centered design solutions and patterns, across desktop and mobile devices
  • Knowledge of usability principles and techniques
  • Ability to work on and adapt patterns for different platforms
  • Known for high quality designs, both conceptually and in execution working across interaction, visual and product design

What the job involves

  • We are looking for a seasoned UX Designer who excels at crafting thoughtful consumer-facing experiences within the Amazon's Buy with Prime design team
  • In collaboration with our partner brands, we want to ensure that the Prime experience seamlessly enhances carefully curated shopping journeys, while aligning with their brand values
  • You will work with our internal teams and our external partners at marquee brands to help integrate Prime experiences into their Direct-to-Consumer offerings while upholding the Prime bar and adhering to their brand philosophy
  • You will not only help us scale our design patterns but work with leaders at well-known brands to achieve harmony between their shopping experiences and our solutions
  • Our team consists of highly specialized Interaction Designers, Visual Designers, Researchers, and Writers, collaborating with internal and external teams to deliver innovative customer-facing experiences to Prime members
  • You will also work closely with a cross-functional group of Product Managers, Engineers, Sales, Business Development and organizational leaders to ideate and deliver on the best possible experience for our customers and partners
  • Ideate, build and maintain scalable design patterns that can be applied across a variety of e-commerce implementations
  • Drive consensus on design decisions through application of usability heuristics and data
  • Champion and partner on key research studies that will help us better understand user behaviors, needs and motivations while translating insights into actionable design solutions
  • Create scalable wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs to communicate concepts through different phases of a product's lifecycle
  • Identify, design and document reusable patterns that help us scale our design philosophy across integrations
  • Incorporate system limitations, scaling factors, and architectural constraints in your designs while making appropriate trade-offs
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external brand partners across engineering, product management, design and research functions
  • Build and communicate empathy for the end user, aligning cross-functional peers on similar goals
  • Mentor and lead other designers to help scale the impact you can make

The company is present in numerous verticals, including cloud computing with Amazon Web Services, AI with its range of Alexa devices and a global marketplace more commonly referred to as 'the everything store'. Acquisitions include Ring, Twitch, Whole Foods Market, and IMDb.

More recently, Amazon has been focused on leading the "third wave in digital advertising". Many businesses are now shifting ad dollars to retailers, which before would have been spent with online media platforms. Amazon's seen great success in the space, with its revenue from advertising now higher than its Amazon Prime membership scheme, audiobooks and digital music combined. This growth is particularly impressive considering its digital ad rivals (like Snap, Alphabet, and Meta) have suffered declines due to wider macroeconomic factors and Apple's iOS privacy changes.

Despite its dominant market position, Amazon will continue to be challenged over the next decade, including sustaining AWS's cloud dominance in the face of Google and Microsoft. On top of this, the company's e-commerce division is facing profitability problems despite its 2023 post-IPO debt funding of 8 billion. It will need to find new ways to stay above their competitors.
