To enable the world's teams to work together effortlessly.

Role

Who you are

  • Experience working in ambiguous and complex spaces and creating clarity and alignment with partners and stakeholders
  • Experience driving projects of medium to large complexity autonomously and reliably, planning the work through milestones and workstreams, coordinating the work of multiple engineers, and delivering successfully, timely and with high-quality
  • Comfortable diving deep into the weeds of complex technical contexts, to make sense of them, and then share their knowledge in a clear way with people in different roles and with different technical backgrounds
  • Passionate about software architecture and software quality
  • Care deeply about the User Experience
  • You have a continuous improvement mindset and are never satisfied with the status quo, whether it's about the architecture, the code or the team's processes
  • Excited about mentoring and coaching teammates and stakeholders and contributing to leveling the team

What the job involves

  • We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the User Management team in our Vancouver Office
  • The UM team is responsible for managing the provisioning, lifecycle, deprovisioning, and administration of users and teams within Asana with an eye towards enabling and empowering administrators to enable Asana growth within their organizations
  • We aim at delivering a best-in-class user experience for user and team administration that meets the needs of the world’s largest companies, while featuring rock-solid stability, security, and compliance
  • Our product engineering team works closely with designers and PMs throughout the entire product process, from conception to post-launch reflection
  • You’ll advocate for engineering best practices and work cross-functionally to define and build powerful admin features while influencing the team's velocity
  • You'll mentor other engineers and advocate for code and component quality, reusability, and consistency; and you'll be at the forefront of a new wave of consumer-like experiences for the enterprise and enjoy the challenge of balancing speed of execution with quality and building a product that users love
  • Work in a high-performance, dynamic team with a strong focus on velocity and software quality
  • Contribute to building a complex SaaS application that is a market leader in its segment
  • Work closely with PMs and customers to understand the needs of IT admins of large enterprises, and identify features to satisfy those needs
  • Learn about state-of-the-art technologies, including SCIM, SAML and other tools that allow the management of users and teams at scale
  • Drive large, impactful projects, delivering features that will be rolled out and used in large organizations
  • Support other teams and stakeholders that work in our space

Our take

Asana is a web and mobile application designed to help teams organize, track, and manage their work. Acting as a unified hub, it empowers teams to effortlessly generate projects, delegate responsibilities, set deadlines, and foster direct task-related communication, transcending the inefficiencies of traditional email-based coordination.

Despite facing competition from established players like SmartSheet in its market, Asana has navigated its path, bolstered by a successful Initial Public Offering in 2020 and a track record of startup triumphs. This strategic prowess has propelled Asana to amass a robust clientele exceeding 100,000 organizations, boasting notable entities such as Uber and Air France among its ranks.

Since its inception, Asana has undergone exponential growth, with its reach extending to offices sprawled across four continents worldwide. This expansion not only underscores its global footprint but also signifies its commitment to fostering diverse talent pools and catering to a broad spectrum of clients.

Company values

  • Mission: We are purpose-driven people, dedicated to serving something beyond ourselves. Having mission as a value also allows us to continually ground ourselves in why we’re building Asana
  • Do great things, fast: We commit to being great at the things we do and doing them fast, without sacrificing one for the other
  • Clarity: Our product and culture aim to ensure that teams know who is doing what, by when, and why, which unlocks the best work experiences and outcomes
  • Co-creation: Great achievements are almost always the result not of one, but many. We bring our best, let go of egos, and work with empathy and trust to do great things together
  • Give and take responsibility: Having integrity around our commitments means seizing exciting opportunities, and also owning it when we have to deprioritize something. We accept full ownership of our commitments, and empower and trust others to achieve theirs
  • Mindfulness: We focus on the present and aim to give ourselves time to reflect and space to integrate what we learn. These practices allow us to collectively learn from and improve in all that we do, and to continually evolve our culture
  • Reject false tradeoffs: We stay curious, creative, and open to new perspectives. Choosing between two sides of an extreme results in losing the benefits of one, so we commit to searching for a third way that incorporate the truths of both
  • Be real (with yourself and others): We know that our best work is tied to authenticity, which allows for growth and collaboration. We bring our whole selves to work and commit to building an inclusive environment in which all people feel safe and excited about being their full selves
  • Heartitude: We embrace what makes us human, take time to play and have fun, and create meaningful experiences for their own sake. Why do we have a unicorn flying across our product when we mark a task complete? The real question is - why not?
