What the job involves

  • We're looking for a Product Design Manager who is energized about driving impactful, high-quality product strategies and user experiences, and puts people at the center of everything they do. This individual will support designers in their growth, investing in their team and it’s success
  • When driving the design work, they're not afraid to push the boundaries to achieve par-excellence user experiences for restaurants. We’re looking for someone who is not always satisfied with the status quo and is eager to improve themselves and those around them
  • Manage a team of world-class designers at all experience levels focused on complex restaurant products across Web, iOS and Android
  • Be accountable for the UX output of your team and develop a strong perspective on your product area, successfully advocating for it across the organization
  • Partner deeply with product and engineering leads to build high-quality products, improve team processes and execution, and coach individual teams through setting roadmap and strategy
  • Run and improve team processes like standups and reviews
  • Advance your own skills as a people manager and as a strategic partner in a supportive and growth-oriented environment

OpenTable was one of the earliest innovators in the online reservation space, setting up shop in 1998 as a tool to enable restaurants to take bookings online. Rather than charging consumers for the service, OpenTable generates revenue via a monthly subscription and reservation fee from businesses.

Today, the platform is used by tens of thousands of restaurants around the world and seats over 1 billion diners per year. The company was acquired by Booking Holdings – the world's largest travel company – for $2.6 billion in 2014, and remains a subsidiary of the group to this day.

OpenTable is the dominant player in the restaurant reservation software category, with an impressive 45% market share, but does face increasing competition from platforms like Resy, Tock, TableAgent, and many more. Nonetheless, this market leader has garnered an impressive reputation, and there is nothing to say it won't hold on to the dominance it has earned into the future.
