Role

Who you are

  • 10+ years of experience at a law firm and/or as a General Counsel, Deputy General Counsel or Associate General Counsel at a B2B SaaS company
  • Law degree from a highly regarded law school and admitted to at least one state bar
  • Experience with commercial law and contract negotiations, particularly software as a service (SaaS) contracts, with customers, vendors and partners
  • Strong familiarity in privacy laws, including domestic and EU regulatory regimes
  • Based in the New York City area, with a willingness to periodically travel to mParticle’s office in Union Square

Desirable

  • Practical and business-oriented; seasoned in analyzing risk and business-opportunities
  • Experience working with entities across both the US and Europe (particularly the UK), APAC is a plus
  • Strong understanding of the B2B SaaS start-up space
  • Exceptional communication skills and strong ability to explain legal concepts to non-lawyers, as well as work directly with an Executive team and Board of Directors
  • Flexibility to accommodate diverse interests and needs
  • Experience supporting a People Team and global workforce

What the job involves

  • As mParticle’s Associate General Counsel, you will play an integral role across the organization and be involved in a wide range of legal endeavors, including corporate governance, privacy, contracts with customers, vendors and partners, employment matters, and more
  • In this role, you will be responsible for supporting, implementing and delivering legal strategy, advice, policy, and processes that create and sustain a high performance culture
  • Continue building the legal and compliance functions at mParticle
  • Oversee efficient and effective delivery of legal services and resources to achieve corporate goals, strategies and priorities within the legal budget
  • Advise the Executive team on legal, risk and other business matters
  • Draft and negotiate agreements and business artifacts with customers, business partners, and service providers; provide strategic advice re the same
  • Serve as the mParticle Chief Privacy Officer and own privacy strategy, operations, and regulatory compliance, working with mParticle’s Data Protection Officer
  • Oversee corporate compliance in conjunction with Finance and People Operations teams (including HR, corporate, equity incentive plan, and tax issues)
  • Collaborate with Finance team on investor reporting and fundraising activities
  • Select and manage outside counsel and privacy consultants as needed on behalf of mParticle
  • Advise and educate internal teams on legal, privacy and general compliance obligations

mParticle is a retail customer data platform that improves the way companies collect information on their customers. mParticle utilizes sophisticated algorithms and machine learning technology in order to help drive better customer interactions. The firm also provides a range of data analytics services, A/B testing, marketing, and data warehousing tools.

Big data analytics in retail is expected to reach a total market value in excess of $25.5 billion by 2028. To help capitalize on this, the company has sought several acquisitions, the most recent being AI startup Vidora and analytics provider Indicative.

It is also working on its product to reach larger clients. It recently launched a new toolkit that allows enterprises to gather data from across the customer lifecycle, as well as introducing Custom Access Roles to its platform. A direct sync with Snowflake also bolsters the platform's utility, with other data platforms including Google BigQuery, Amazon RedShift, and Microsoft Azure to be supported in the future.
