Role

Who you are

  • 4+ years of as a data practitioner or consultant in data operations or analytics
  • A solid technical background, with a firm understanding of modern data warehousing architectures, the modern data stack, and SQL proficient
  • Prior dbt experience preferred, bonus points for dbt certification
  • Worked asynchronously as part of a partially-remote, distributed team
  • High degree of comfort presenting to various stakeholders or audience, ideally with experience in an externally facing role
  • Ability to operate in an ambiguous and fast-paced environment and think on your feet when engaged in customer conversations
  • Desire to be part of a team, both as an active member of the SA team as we continue to evolve and improve how we work, and in your day-to-day work with Account Executives as part of a deal team
  • Openness to travel. We value the power of in-person relationship building, both internally and externally, so a willingness to travel to external and internal events is required

  • Basic python competency and advanced SQL knowledge
  • Proven experience in a pre-sales tech role

What the job involves

  • Your role as an SA is to help prospects understand the value that dbt Cloud will provide to their organization
  • To achieve this, you will lead technical discussions with prospective customers, uncover their data challenges, and showcase how dbt Cloud can address their needs through live demos and technical workshops
  • Internally, you will help our team as we continue to build out our processes and playbooks and act as the voice of the customer to ensure that we continue to build product that solves real problems and delights our customers
  • Spend the majority of your time working on pre-sales opportunities in order to understand their use cases and identify the value that dbt Cloud can bring to their organization
  • Consult with potential customers to understand their data challenges and identify opportunities for dbt Cloud to alleviate their pain and help them achieve their goals
  • Own showcasing the technical and business impact, providing technical expertise and delivering demos of dbt Cloud tailored to the unique needs of potential customers
  • Collaborate closely with your Account Executives, building strong trust-based relationships and providing strategic input on deal processes
  • Maintain ongoing relationships with technical contacts in your accounts
  • Work with the team to improve the way we work together, be the voice of the customer in product discussions, and participate in other cross-functional activities
  • Participate in the knowledge loop helping to improve our processes and assets and enabling others on the team
  • Create and deliver external facing content through live events, blog posts, recorded tutorials, or other content

In 2018, dbt Labs founder Tristan Handy was running an analytics company and created a data build tool (or ‘dbt’) to help transform data for analysis. Fast forward one year and dbt Labs was born, offering its tools to help companies everywhere transform their data workflows.

Raw data comes in myriad forms and dbt Labs’ software allows data specialists to manage the data transformation layer making its use for analysis much easier. It offers consulting services on top of the software, and has ridden a wave of companies embracing digital transformation more as their services and workplaces become more online.

Seen as the defacto standard for modern analytics engineering by many, it reached unicorn status within 2 years of launch and is focusing future efforts on expanding reach more markets outside of the US. Its recent acquisition of Transform, an analytics engineering company, will aid in further developing its product's data transformation capabilities.
