Company mission

The FT has an uncompromising mission: delivering independent, quality information, news and services to individuals and companies around the globe. It’s the cornerstone of our reputation and the heart of our ambitions for the future.

Role

Who you are

  • We are looking for someone with a blend of business acumen and data domain expertise to identify and turbo-charge the value-drivers within the department, working across the entire organisation
  • Able to see the big picture opportunity but to also understand the detail and practical steps that can get us to the value whilst collaborating with analysts, allies & stakeholders alike
  • Comfortable challenging established practices where further value could be unlocked
  • Proactive to identify growth opportunities powered by data (new or existing)
  • Possess both an analytical and commercial mindset
  • Able to influence and inspire others across the organisation as well as confident and compelling when pitching to key stakeholders. Ability to communicate complexity and distil detail into clearly understandable concepts, no matter the audience
  • Strong project management skills and ability to measure progress of initiatives
  • An analyst looking for a more strategic challenge
  • A business analyst with a strong grasp of data
  • A data product manager
  • Something completely different!

What the job involves

  • The Data Value & Strategy team’s mission is to advance our data outcomes by ensuring that we are realising the full value of our data and analytical capabilities and assets
  • Over the next few years we have ambitious targets to grow the FT’s global paying audience
  • This can only be achieved by fully leveraging and optimising the value of our data & analytical capabilities
  • Identify the highest value outputs from the Data & Analytics Department & create a process of continuous improvement through the delivery of solutions
  • Help the department optimise for the highest value outputs and align necessary stakeholders
  • Undertake/support the top level analysis of what is required to realise value
  • Partner with Delivery to drive initiatives forward and help coordinate cross-functional effort
  • Translating between the Data & Analytics department and business functions on how best to unlock value using our data capabilities
  • Maintaining a position of independence to guide the business to the best outcome for FT as a whole
  • Owning, refining, communicating and embedding our methodology for valuing data capabilities and assets - both potential value of incoming projects and realised value post completion. Analysing the gap between potential and realised value to find opportunities for further optimisation
  • Having a thorough understanding of what metrics represent the value drivers within each business area and ensuring Metrics That Matter (an internal initiative to simplify and clarify the metrics that power our business) is improving data-driven decision making across the company
  • Leading on the translation of growth opportunities & into a proposed set of activities to realise benefits
  • Making high value recommendations on how data can drive more value within the organisation (either new datasets or new applications of existing data)
  • Leveraging analytical and technical support from other teams to achieve the above
  • Confidently measuring the success of internal initiatives and using subsequent analysis to drive improvements towards team goals (i.e. data driven decision making, value capture etc.)
  • Questioning existing data use and workflows to better understand areas of opportunity

Founded in 1888, the FT has grown into one of the world's biggest online and broadsheet economics and business news providers. It has a strong focus on financial journalism and economic analysis, and provides this essential analysis to companies and individuals across the world.

As well as economics and business, the FT also offers sections on opinion, life and arts, how to spend, and more. In 2022, six of its writers won awards in science, data and investment categories, illustrating the breadth and quality of the FT’s journalism.

The company adapts well to changes in the market to maintain its readership. For example, it recently launched a digital hub and weekly newsletter called Cryptofinance to shine a light on the digital asset industry and how innovations are rippling into mainstream finance.

The FT Group employs more than 2300 people worldwide, including 700 journalists in 40 countries. It includes the FT, FT Specialist, and a number of services and joint ventures. FT's focus on providing impartial, high-quality content has gained it a record-paying readership of over a million, three-quarters of which are digital subscriptions.
