Role

Who you are

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in computer science or related discipline
  • 8+ years working with cloud-based hosting environments on one of the big 3 cloud providers (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and deep familiarity with common managed services
  • 5+ years working with various well-known monitoring and observability platforms (ex: Jaeger, Metrios, Prometheus, etc.) and common data/dashboarding capabilities (ex: Splunk, ELK)
  • Ability to program (structured and OOP) using one or more high-level languages, such as Python or JavaScript/Typescript
  • Experience with dynamic resource management frameworks (Apache Mesos, Kubernetes) and use of containers (ex: Docker) & virtual system image models (ex: AWS AMI)

What the job involves

  • The Sr. Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) performs a critical function in support of this goal and the ongoing evolution of our technology and platform strategy
  • Responsibility to ensure the high performance, fault-tolerant behavior of our platform and the new capabilities being introduced into the mission critical, regulated business environment that it supports
  • Ensures that all platform environments have sufficient monitoring and observation to guarantee holistic awareness of system health and conformance of service-level objectives
  • Implements software and systems to manage platform infrastructure and applications that provide transparency to stakeholders on platform status
  • Increases the predictability of system behaviors against quality goals from proposed changes, balancing performance with an eye toward pushing our capabilities forward, getting ahead of customer needs, and innovating for continual improvement
  • Focuses on innovating solutions that increase clarity and operational efficiencies on supporting technical platform services
  • Showcases a proactive approach to identifying problems, performance bottlenecks, and areas for improvement before others know they exist
  • Work in conjunction with engineering stakeholders to define platform metrics and collection strategies that close gaps in visibility to the state of the platform and ability to scale against future objectives
  • Regular capture and analysis of platform metrics for prediction and discovery of performance and fault hotspots
  • Partner with delivery teams to validate behavior of services through release management activities to assure production behavior against quality goals
  • Participate in system design consulting, platform management, and capacity planning for services and supporting technical assets
  • Work with stakeholders to ensure sustainable, operable platform systems and services through instrumentation and automation
  • Balance feature development speed and reliability with well-defined service-level objectives
  • Provide primary operational support and engineering for platform observability and monitoring infrastructure
