Our take

CodeSignal offers an AI-evaluated, plagiarism-sensitive coding assessment, certification and candidate interview platform which allows companies to quickly pre-screen thousands of potential employees while tackling hiring bias.

The company’s call to action is for hiring managers to “go beyond resumes”, which are infamously scan-read for only seconds. The knock-on effect of this is that the best talent often gets overlooked, and the hiring process becomes biased towards details like the university a candidate attended, previous experience, or geographical location rather than their technical abilities.

CodeSignal’s offering has become popular among some of the tech industry’s biggest names, with companies like Facebook, Uber, Robinhood, Zoom and Reddit all using its skills assessments to pre-screen candidates. Meanwhile, CodeSignal has struck up a high-profile partnership with freelancing platform UpWork to implement its in-house technical skills assessment.

As the tech industry comes under increasing pressure to remove bias from its hiring process and increase diversity, the value of a CodeSignal platform is only set to go up, especially as AI tools become more accepted within the workplace.
