Company mission

To be the go-to way companies respond when things go wrong, helping every organization to be more reliable.

Role

Who you are

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in both automated and manual testing. You have written full test suites using testing frameworks like Capybara and Playwright. You have had huge impact on software quality
  • Knowledge of programming languages relevant to test automation, such as Ruby, Python, or JavaScript
  • Strong written communication skills and can understand complex technical concepts
  • Have an eye for design and knows what looks good and doesn't
  • Passion and ability to work well in a fast-paced, rapidly changing, and ambiguous environment
  • Can empathize with the challenges of incident management and interest in developer-focused products
  • Enjoys working and contributing to a high performing team that consistently delivers results
  • We don't care about fancy degrees or FAANG experience
  • Finding bugs in production legitimately annoys you

What the job involves

  • As a QA Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring an extremely high bar for the quality and reliability of our software products
  • You'll need a keen eye for detail, a sharp product mindset, strong technical chops, and the desire to ship fast
  • This is also an amazing opportunity to help lay the foundations of QA within Rootly
  • Develop comprehensive test plans to ensure that software projects functions as expected. This includes identifying test scenarios, determining the appropriate balance between manual and automated tests, and specifying test criteria
  • Execute tests plans to ensure the software we ship to our clients meets an extremely high quality bar. The details matter. You are the "buck stops here" on quality
  • Work closely with developers, product managers, and other stakeholders to understand requirements and ensure that quality standards are met
  • Seek to understand the WHY behind the features we build. You have a strong product mindset and can put yourself in the shoes of the client. You also have a strong technical mindset and understand enough about software development to know how to break things :)
  • Execute and help define our automation strategy

Our take

Responding to incidents is a vital function in any business, with the way teams handle issues massively affecting how the company looks to users and stakeholders. With this in mind, Rootly supplies an incident management platform for users to automate tedious parts of their incident response workflows, and ultimately react quicker to problems.

Rootly's automation can be applied to much of the incident response process; such as paging responders, creating incident reports, tracking progress and reporting to stakeholders. Importantly, it can be employed directly from Slack, meaning users can enact responses without switching between platforms.

Rootly is used by a vast range of companies, from startups to members of the Fortune 100, and its clientele includes the likes of Cisco, Shell, Nvidia and Grammarly. Its winning of the 2023 CyberSecurity Breakthrough Award is another stamp of approval for the company. With strong funding secured from Silicon Valley Bank (days before the latter's collapse), Rootly plans to expand product development and invest in sales and marketing to grow its global presence.
