Who you are

  • You will be viewed as a deep subject matter expert for building a brand through communications and will have deep expertise in communications, executive communications, brand messaging, thought leadership, media, social media, crisis communications, and presentation best practices and strategy
  • Has deep technical knowledge of communications, executive communications, brand messaging, thought leadership, media, social media, crisis communications, and presentation best practices and strategy to best position Anchorage Digital in the public realm
  • Is engaging, easy to approach and builds appropriate rapport, with diplomacy and tact, and recognized as a technical leader whose knowledge, ideas and critical thinking impact the strategic direction of Anchorage
  • Have 10+ years of communications, executive communications, brand messaging, thought leadership, media, social media, crisis communications, and presentation best practices and strategy in blockchain, technology, fintech, or banking/investment sectors
  • Proven ability to create, manage, and execute strategic communications plans that drive engagement and brand positioning
  • Superb writing, editing, and storytelling skills with experience in creating B2B content, such as thought leadership articles, white papers, press releases, etc. Strong verbal and written communications skills with the ability to communicate complex topics in a clear and concise manner
  • Deep knowledge of crypto, institutional investment, and mainstream publications, conferences, social media, and media (with strong network of media contacts) landscape with a proven track record of securing media coverage in top tier outlets. Ability to build relationships with industry influencers and media
  • Ability to tie communications strategy and activities to tangible business and client impact and demonstrated track record of using data to drive strategy and decision making
  • Excellent cross functional project management skills with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to see the big picture and know the details, and knowledge of what is important to our clients
  • Are energized by promoting brands and execs to achieve tangible business results

What the job involves

  • The Communications Lead role is focused on developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive communications strategies to promote brand stewardship including building top of funnel brand awareness and amplifying Anchorage Digital’s brand with key external constituents (clients, industry partners, and other stakeholders)
  • This individual will lead a high impact communications function by collaborating across marketing, influencing and directing cross functional project teams, providing day-to-day management of our agency partners, mentoring, developing, and coaching team members and developing/enhancing processes and procedures for all communications activities
  • We have created the Factors of Growth & Impact to help Villagers better measure impact and articulate coaching, feedback, and the rich and rewarding learning that happens while exploring, developing, and mastering the capabilities and contributions within and outside of the Communications Lead role
  • Applies deep writing, presentation, and communication skills and best practices to craft materials, write talks, and coach speakers to communicate Anchorage’s value proposition and perspective effectively to broad audiences
  • Uses knowledge of publications, conferences, social media, and media landscape to optimally execute external campaigns. For campaigns that include media - uses extensive media relationships and knowledge of crypto, institutional investment, and mainstream media landscape to execute on a best-in-class media strategy
  • Establish and promote the company’s thought leadership by crafting expert content and securing speaking engagements, industry features, and other visibility opportunities
  • Develop and implement communication strategies that align with company business objectives and marketing goals and brand vision
  • Create messaging frameworks that effectively communicate our value proposition to our clients and other external stakeholders, and differentiate our brand in the marketplace
  • Tracks and reports on KPIs such as engagement metrics and content effectiveness
  • Uses data and insights to inform and refine communication strategies and improved future performance
  • Accountable for managing and generating value from agency partners
  • Plays a leadership role in defining Anchorage Digital’s brand messaging and thought leadership strategy and independently leads and implements strategic communications initiatives to support the strategy
  • Promotes a shared understanding of the needs of Anchorage and strategic direction to rally cross-functional teams
  • Develops and implements programs, projects and processes aligned with Anchorage strategic direction and needs
  • Collaborates closely with sales, product, business lines, and other cross functional stakeholders to develop messaging and content that support brand stewardship and client engagement
  • Provides regulator communication updates and tools for internal teams, including sales enablement resources for communications programs (like FAQs)
  • Creates formal networks with key decision makers and serves as external spokesperson for Anchorage

Our take

Anchorage is a crypto-native digital asset platform offering a raft of solutions that help companies leverage blockchain technologies. Their advanced security architecture facilitates streamlined access to the complex and fragmented digital asset space.

Financial backing for Anchorage has come from prestigious investors Visa and Andreessen Horowitz. Anchorage's broad offerings are set to be matched by plans to partner across a wide spread of neobanks, challenger & incumbent banks, and corporate treasurers. This would mean an impressive expansion of their already substantial domain of influence in a rapidly developing sector.

In early 2021, Anchorage secured a national trust charter from the OCC, making it the first-ever federally chartered digital asset bank. This is significant, as it provides a good barrier to entry for other companies looking to compete in this space, and gives legacy institutions the ability to offer digital asset access to their clients. Though it has raised considerable funding in the past, crypto instability and wider macroeconomic challenges forced Anchorage to cut 20% of its staff in March 2023. 2022 clampdowns on customer due dilligence internal controllers added to the pressure on Anchorage to streamline and refocus its efforts.
