Who you are

  • Agile Development Experience: 4+ years working in an Agile software development environment for SaaS applications
  • Team Management: 3+ years managing a team of 5+ engineers
  • End-to-End Testing Expertise: 3+ years working as an individual contributor with Playwright, Cypress, or equivalent End-To-End testing technologies
  • Javascript/Typescript Proficiency: Advanced knowledge in Javascript/Typescript
  • Ruby and Ruby on Rails Familiarity: Understanding of core Ruby concepts, Ruby on Rails, and Ruby testing strategies such as rspec and minitest

What the job involves

  • Ontra is seeking an Engineering Manager reporting to the Director on our Quality team
  • For this job, we are currently only hiring candidates based in the United States
  • We’re looking for someone excited to lead and expand the Quality Engineering department, collaborate on optimizing quality procedures, manage and enhance key quality metrics, and mentor junior engineers while fostering best practices in agile software development
  • If you are a proactive individual with proven ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences, we’d love to get to know you!
  • Code Review & Mentorship: Perform code reviews and provide general mentorship to help elevate team skills and standards
  • OKR Progress Tracking: Monitor and review team progress against department-level Objectives and Key Results (OKRs)
  • Strategic Meetings: Lead small group meetings to discuss and decide on strategy and direction for application and automation features
  • Unblocking & Process Improvement: Identify and address sticking points in processes or procedures to help the team overcome barriers
  • Servant Leadership: Act as a servant leader by prioritizing the needs of the
  • 1:1 Meetings: Conduct weekly sessions with direct reports, engineering managers, and leaders to ensure communication and alignment
