Who you are
- 6+ years of experience in top-tier investment banking, private equity, venture capital, or corporate development, with a focus on the technology sector
- Bachelor’s degree or MBA (or equivalent experience)
- Proven track record of leading and executing strategic investments / M&A
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with experience in investor relations
- Excellent strategic thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Strong expertise in financial analysis and driving end to end deal execution
- High attention to detail, strong business acumen
- Ability to work collaboratively and drive results with senior leadership

What the job involves
- The Manager of Corporate Development & Investor Relations will play a key role in driving Waabi’s strategic growth initiatives, investor relations efforts, and external communications. Working closely with Executive Leadership, this role will identify and execute growth opportunities, while effectively representing Waabi’s vision and value proposition to stakeholders
- As an external-facing role, the primary focus will be on developing and implementing initiatives that support Waabi’s long-term growth and competitive advantage. You’ll collaborate with leadership and senior stakeholders across finance, commercial, and product teams to shape strategy, enable fundraising and drive execution. This position offers a unique opportunity for a strategic thinker with strong analytical skills to make a significant impact
- Strategic Planning: Analyze market trends, competitor activities, and industry dynamics to identify strategic growth opportunities and assess potential risks
- Financial Modeling & Analysis: Partner with finance to evaluate strategic initiatives, including forecasting, scenario analysis, and unit economics assessment
- Due Diligence: Lead comprehensive research and due diligence on potential business opportunities, collaborating with cross-functional teams for insights
- Cross-Functional Leadership: Partner with finance, legal, product, and operations teams to ensure seamless execution of corporate development initiatives
- Investor Engagement: Build and nurture relationships with existing and potential investors, lead capital-raising efforts, and effectively communicate Waabi’s performance and future plans
- Financial Reporting: Prepare quarterly and annual reports, presentations, and financial disclosures, clearly conveying key financial and operational metrics
- Investor Meetings: Plan and execute investor meetings, roadshows, and other capital-raising activities
- Market Intelligence: Monitor investor sentiment, market conditions, and competitor activities, providing insights that inform Waabi’s internal strategy
- Corporate Narrative: Collaborate on crafting Waabi’s strategic narrative to ensure consistency across investor relations, media, and public relations efforts
- Board & Executive Reporting: Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations for senior leadership, providing strategic recommendations and updates
- Media & PR Support: Assist in managing external communications related to corporate development and investor relations
- Cross-Functional Leadership: Work closely with the executive team to shape corporate strategy, lead special projects, and assess new business opportunities
- Thought Leadership: Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, developing strategies and translating business objectives into actionable initiatives
Our take
Autonomous vehicle technology is rapidly developing and many sectors are recognising its value. However, whilst the self-driving industry has made significant advancements there is much more that can be done. There are challenges in this space surrounding scale and developing commercially viable self-driving technology.
Waabi hopes to tackle these challenges and be the leader in self-driving technology with their "AI first approach". The company said that combined with a closed-loop simulator, this approach will allow both common driving scenarios and safety-critical edge cases to be tested at scale - solving one of the key issues in the industry.
Waabi successfully raised one of the largest Series A rounds ever raised in Canada, and has gone on to raise fresh Volvo and Uber-led funding in early 2024. While the company's focus is currently on autonomous long-haul trucking (launching its first generation of trucks in November 2022), the company is well set to lead the next generation of self-driving technology.
