  • Hands-on knowledge of AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform
  • Working knowledge of Postgres databases
  • Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions
  • Experience with design and implementation of high performance systems with reliable monitoring and logging

What the job involves

  • We aim to design, build and provide scalable, secure, and stable infrastructure, while also enabling our engineers to quickly and easily deploy new code.
  • The data-delivery team is a part of the Platform Engineering team in Wealthsimple and is mainly responsible for:
  • 1. Designing, administering and maintaining the data stores for Wealthsimple including the data replication processes
  • 2. Administering Oracle EBS
  • 3. Developing ETL pipelines, integrations and data validation reconciliation tools
  • The Wealthsimple ecosystem is primarily Ruby on Rails and JavaScript micro services, with state backend by Aurora (PostgreSQL) and Redis. The infrastructure-specific stack you will work on is powered by AWS, powered by Docker and Consul and finally, orchestrated by Nomad and "coming soon" Kubernetes
  • Partner with stakeholders across different product domains, infrastructure, and leadership, driving data related technical problems at scale
  • Design, administer, maintain, and provide capacity planning for data systems such as Redis, Oracle, Postgres, etc
  • Design, build, and launch data pipelines at scale to move data across Wealthsimple's platform with API, SQL/PostgreSQL technologies
  • Work in partnership with stakeholders to understand client integration requirements and business processes with our data stores
  • Ensure the reliability, security, and performance of integration solutions through rigorous testing and quality assurance
  • Create and maintain detailed technical documentation, including technical specifications, code documentation, and progress reports
  • Ensure data stores scalability through proactive analysis and thorough capacity planning
  • Work with a large amount of autonomy to set the technical direction for scalable projects

Our take

Wealthsimple is one of a crop of robo-advisors trying to democratize investment management. These companies are disrupting the industry by automating many of the processes involved in investment removing the need for human advisors.

But while other so-called robo-advisors are focused on courting the high end of the market, Wealthsimple is trying to provide the same types of tools and advice to all users, regardless of the amount they have to invest.

Wealthsimple does have higher fees than some other robo-advisors such as Betterment and Charles Schwab. However, the company believes that it provides a more user-friendly platform, tailored to millennials who will be attracted to Wealthsimple due to its ease of use and social impact offerings.
