Who you are
- Has strong knowledge of Swift, OOD, and OOP, as well as multithreading (GCD)
- Brings strong software engineering fundamentals, including knowledge of algorithms and data structures
- Is fluent in engineering best practices: code review, test coverage, and monitoring

- Has experience developing desktop applications that work with Mac Internals (preferred but not required)

What the job involves
- To achieve our ambitious goals, we’re looking for macOS Software Engineers to join our Grammarly for Mac team and the Core Product team. These teams are responsible for the end-to-end development of a product offering that helps deliver Grammarly’s sophisticated AI system to Mac users
- We aim to help users achieve their goals anywhere they communicate. This role will work with a team of engineers fueled by creativity and exploration, focusing on bringing our sophisticated AI system directly to Mac users
- Grammarly’s engineers and researchers have the freedom to innovate and uncover breakthroughs—and, in turn, influence our product roadmap. The complexity of our technical challenges is growing rapidly as we scale our interfaces, algorithms, and infrastructure
- As a macOS Software Engineer, you will build a new complex and multifaceted product offering, which will offer you opportunities for creativity and innovative problem-solving
- Contribute to creating the foundation of a robust and well-thought-out architecture
- Innovate to break through technical limitations and deliver delightful features
- Build non-trivial UX solutions with complex UI elements
- Achieve minimum latency while working with complex documents
- Ensure the product is performant by applying your knowledge of algorithms and data structures
- Develop shared components used in different Grammarly product offerings built for Apple platforms
- Use Swift, AppKit, and CoreGraphics in your work while employing best engineering practices

Grammarly was originally launched as a subscription service for students, although the platform has moved into the mainstream in the last decade. It went freemium in 2015 and now works across more than 500,000 applications and websites including email clients, enterprise software, and word processors. Paid tiers give users more tools beyond grammar and spelling checks to include things like word choice, sentence rewrites, tone adjustments, fluency, and formality level.
The company has been profitable since the beginning and now has a valuation of more than $13 billion, placing it among the 10 most valuable startups in the US. The AI writing assistant space is heating up, and Grammarly is hoping to defend its positions against offerings including Scalenut, Ginger and Microsoft's Editor by the release of its SDK, making it far easier to integrate Grammarly into other applications. So far this has been used in over 4,000 products and earned excellent ratings and increased user numbers of Grammarly's service.
