What the job involves

  • We're looking for a Social Media Lead who will lead our organic social vision—driving cultural relevance, brand affinity, and user acquisition through standout storytelling and smart strategy
  • You’ll lead Cleo’s organic social efforts, working within the Creative Studio to create follow-worthy content
  • You’ll shape the vision, elevate the creative, and work across the company to ensure social is a core part of how we grow and show up for our users and as industry leaders
  • Own and evolve the organic social media strategy across platforms including Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X, and Facebook
  • Define and lead long-term goals for growth, engagement, community management, and impact aligned with marketing and company OKRs
  • Act as a thought leader internally on how Cleo can lead culture through social and set the standard for how we should be running our channels
  • Lead content planning, editorial calendars, and cross-channel campaigns
  • Ensuring everything feels distinctly “Cleo” according to brand guidelines while managing performance
  • Manage internal and external creators, freelancers, and agency partners
  • Work closely with cross functional teams including Growth Marketing, Comms & Creative Studio to ensure social-first thinking across all marketing initiatives
  • Provide mentorship to junior team members and help scale the function as Cleo grows
  • Own reporting and performance reviews for organic social
  • Use data and customer insights to iterate and improve content strategy—ensuring we balance brand-building with performance and business needs
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with platform partners to stay ahead of new features, trends, and opportunities
  • Identify and test new content formats, emerging platforms, and creative approaches to expand reach and engagement

People are increasingly not satisfied with the products being offered by traditional banks, which have proven slow to react to the needs of younger consumers who expect more from their everyday experiences.

Cleo was one of the first companies to make great use of chatbots that sit within Facebook's messenger app. This chatbot-first approach and Gen Z user base have given it strong virality. It now has millions of registered users, 99% of which are based in the US, leading to a decision to take a year break from the UK market to focus on its US Gen Z customers. And after a successful year in the US its now eyeing up a return to the UK.

Its Series C funding will help the company to double down in the US, where it will make a significant increase in employee headcount, and enable Cleo to maintain and expand its service during an economic downturn.

Financial advice delivered via bots is a crowded space, so Cleo benefits from having a strong brand presence. It has gone for very bold, fun, Gen Z-focused messaging which helps it to stand out from competitors such as Emma, Plum, and Chip.
