Role
Who you are
- BS in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, physics, or equivalent technical degree
- 6+ years of industry experience or equivalent including expertise in manufacturing and production testing of electronic assemblies; knowledge of NPI testing and validation is a strong plus
- Experience with developing manufacturing tests of devices such as network cards and switches
- Strong knowledge of Python and shell (bash) scripting. Experience with other programming languages such as C++ or C# is beneficial
- Knowledge of factory automation frameworks such as Ignition and commonly used Python frameworks such as pytest
- Experience with the Linux platform - debugging failures using command line tools such as lshw
Desirable
- MS in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, physics, or equivalent technical degree
- Knowledge of automotive protocols such as CAN and hardware interfaces
- Experience with high-speed links such as GMSLStrong expertise in PCIe troubleshooting - especially with GPUs and similar electronic assemblies
- Experience working with CMs through all product life cycles - NPI and sustaining
What the job involves
- Zoox is looking for a test engineer to build test solutions for manufacturing the electronic platform that underpins our autonomous vehicles. In this role, you will be responsible for the development of tests for critical components of the controls and compute system including custom PCIe devices, networking solutions, and other PC components.
- You will work cross-functionally with our electrical engineering and software teams to develop and test new products and technologies. We are looking for an engineer who is curious, enthusiastic, and not afraid to embrace new technologies! The ability to work independently and organize work around schedules and critical deadlines is a definite plus
- Build and release test solutions for use on the manufacturing lines at Zoox and at contract manufacturing partners
- Develop testing scripts and code to verify functionality, control test instruments, capture test parameters, and analyze results for continuous improvement
- A key requirement of this role is the ability to work cross-functionally to implement the correct test coverage across all phases of manufacturing (PCBA, module, system, vehicle)
- Release updated test programs for new generations of hardware and software for networking and related product families
- Support the test and validation of prototype designs
- Establish best practices and drive continuous improvement for improving test deployments, runtimes, and yields
Our take
Zoox, a self-driving vehicle company, was founded to make personal transportation safer and more enjoyable for all. It has aimed to achieve this goal by creating a new mode of driverless transportation, thus eradicating the safety and logistical issues that come with human drivers.
It revealed its custom vehicle design in December 2020, showcasing something different from just a car without a driver. Uniquely, all four wheels are independent of one another, and the vehicles have no front or back, making them more agile than a standard car. Zoox claims that it is different from other industry players because it has created an entire driverless ecosystem, including the vehicle itself, allowing it to have more control.
The company is fast becoming a major player in an industry that is predicted to be worth $2 trillion by 2030. Electric motors are highly desirable, particularly in an urban environment, as governments look for ways to reduce emissions and improve air quality. Zoox is aiming to play a vital role in this evolution towards more sustainable urban mobility. Amazon acquired the company in 2020 and, despite a general downturn in the sector through 2022, is building a Zoox factory and budgeting $1 billion per year for future development and production.
